I had troops stationed in everywhere I owned. It was tons of fun to do this, but with no rewards for owning castles, it's only purpose is to station troops.
The game on this map will be long, be prepared. After 3+ hours it crashed and I only got to kill person because they were isolated. I had a lot of fun playing it, no doubt, but can't do it again. It is just too much.
Also, the base area you get is small, so it makes the economy harder to have an income for. I think my base was surviving on stone and weapons, but I had no room for candles and church, forget farms of any type. So my gold was stuck at 5x... Actually I don't think that is possible, so it was likely 3x.
The map isn't necessarily playable though, as it lags somewhat (we didn't have troop limits) and the distances and intersections make it nearly impossible to assail someone. This is because the distance is so far to walk, and as you get closer to the enemy you have less and less troops, while they keep spawning more.
If it were more linear, that wouldn't be an issue, but multiple players will be coming at you from all sides. So your army has casualties, plus your troops marching to the waypoint can be ambushed. Though that is a noob fault. Proof of this is shown on my defense as well. I think I only got attacked 3-4 times at my main base (top right), but the castle south of me did a few times too.
