Reading all the negative reviews about this game not being as good as fear or not living up to what fear did or just not being a great "spiritual successor" has really pissed me off and I just want to be here to set the record straight. This game was not meant to be a spiritual successor. Nor was it ever aiming to be a fear "sequel" or copy. You can ask the developers themselves. Yes it took inspiration from fear with the slow motion, smart ai, super natural themes, etc. But it is its own thing entirely. If you're coming into this game expecting a fear follow up, please either go somewhere else or just realize this isn't what you're looking for. Is the story a masterpiece? No its not. But it has some really interesting lore and some pretty cool rabbit holes that are fun to dive into and talk/theorize about. The level design can get a little annoying sometimes. It feels like there can be times where its just constant repeat of the same objectives or goals. But thats where the gameplay comes in to save it from that tedium. By now I'm sure you've seen all the praise regarding the gameplay. Because its f**king amazing. And in order to keep it fresh you have to experiment with the different mechanics, or try out new weapon attachments, or limit yourself to only using certain guns or equipment, or trying to do melee only. Theres just so much you can do with the gameplay. And you can tell by my playtime I thoroughly enjoy this game. It became my most played on steam within 2 weeks of its release.I absolutely love this game. And even if it seems like theres minimal content, theres so many ways to further extend its enjoyment. If you collect all the intel for example you have tons of backstory and logs to go through to learn more about the games story and the characters. Theres also a lot of collectibles and things to unlock. Doing all the combat sims on very hard will get you most of the cosmetics (2 need to be on extreme). And while I get not everyone wants to 100% the game. I think its absolutely worth it. And it never really makes sense to me when people complain about there not being enough content when they chose not to even see all of what is being offered. Theres new areas in the combat sims, and even some old versions of areas that are used in the main game. Which is always fun to see because you can see how far they came with the environment building. And how drastically things changed sometimes. Theres even enemies that are exclusively found in those combat sims. Some being old demo npcs or just flat out unused. I think $30 is an absolute fair price for what the game has. Yes it doesn't seem like a lot at first glance. But theres just countless ways to enjoy the game and really extend its enjoyment so it feels you get your moneys worth. The developers are still planning on adding more in the future too. So its not like this is it forever. But what they delivered is outstanding. The team consists of 4 people. And the amount of detail some parts of this game go into is crazy for such a small team. This game is such a crazy achievement for a team thats last project was just a 2d scroller about shooting organs at enemies as a sea cucumber. Please just give it a try. Its not going to be for everyone. But coming into it with the wrong expectations won't do anything but sour your experience.
