We spend lots of money on it. Seriously, it’s not a surprise when you get better results when you spend more, and the US Army is not stingy.
Soldiers are reasonably well paid. Well enough to attract and retain decent talent. Even then, this is a perennial problem for the military that they constantly worry about.
Soldiers do a lot of real training. Training is expensive (ammo, fuel, wear on equipment, instructors) but the US military doesn’t really skimp here. This is still another area that they constantly worry about.
We don’t have our military do much “scut work”. We hire contractors to run our dining halls and build stuff and do a lot of the other random ♥♥♥♥ that is pushed off onto soldiers in other militaries… That gives them more time to actually train.
We fight wars. The US military has been engaged in at least low level conflict somewhere in the world damn near forever. Nothing keeps a military sharp like actual combat, and nothing else ensures those lessons of war don’t get lost.
We have an all-volunteer force that is (fairly) selective. You have to want to be there, and you will be rejected if you are a drug user, have any serious criminal history, serious health problems, etc. In many nations the military is not a well thought of career, but in the US, today, it’s respected.
