Huge improvement over DW8: Empires

Pro:
  • Secret plans (new stratagems system) makes the battle fun. Once you get far into the conquest, you can execute all kinds of secret plans to change the dynamic of battle.
  • Music are great!
  • Graphic looks good compared to DW8: Empires
  • You can’t rush to kill the boss like in DW9
  • The moral bar have numbers now
  • Can have up to three sworn siblings instead of two. DW8: Empires can only do two.
  • Can have up to 200 amount of officers in the kingdom
  • Better optimization compared to DW9 due to limited space.
  • You can improve the relationship of officers 6 times per turn instead of once per turn like in DW8: Empires.
  • You can redeploy at the cost of 25% of your troop in battle.
  • Better GUI: Easier to identify who is a famous officer vs who is a generic office in the menu. Useful for recruiting/scouting.
  • Character Creation is more detailed when it comes to facial features.
  • Stroll Feature: It’s nice to run around and see your troops, and take some screenshots.
  • Some items are carried over to another playthrough.
  • Added details - Enemy general can show up during a stroll if you have good relation with them. There name will be in red.
  • Added details - If you have good relation with the enemy general, during battle, they will express that they don't want to fight you. (You still fights regardless)
Con:
  • While fun, combat is very repetitive. I suppose this is normal for all DW games.
  • No secondary weapon.
  • No child during gameplay. The child is born after the conquest of China.
  • HUGH STEP BACKWARD! Customization is worst compared to DW8! Make your own horse? Make your own unit? Make your own banner? All gone. We just have Officer creation.
  • HUGH STEP BACKWARD! No full custom scenario. We have a half-baked custom scenario where we can only edit one kingdom. In DW8: Empires. You have full control and have set up any scenario we want.
  • No “bonus points” anymore. In DW8: Empires, some can say the drive to play the game is to collect bonus points and buy all the bonus items. In DW9: Empires. You have no drive to play the game again. Once you clear the conquest once, you might as well quit.
  • No extra gameplay modes, only Conquest.
  • Stroll Feature: While it is cool, it is just extra that doesn’t do anything to benefit the gameplay. Walked into the enemy territory? Nothing happens.
  • Gathering items are all random and relies on officer relationships to be high enough for them to give you stuff. This makes it very grindy and luck based.
