Hellblade is not for the faint of heart, nor the slow of Hand-Eye Coordination. I struggled for a long time to pick up the combat, and it's not a casual game in any way.

-- PC Requirements --
I listed the PC requirements as 'Better' because you'll need more resources to run the highest graphics. It's worth it. I mean that.

☼ Graphics / Artwork ☼
Graphics are literally transcendental. This is one of the more beautiful games I've encountered, and during the final boss fights, I was in awe. While streaming to my friends, one of them mentioned that it literally looks more like a trailer than gameplay. Yeah, it's THAT good IMO.

♬ Music ♬
The music is listed as beautiful solely for the last boss fight. It's a magical experience, and it's honestly worth the year that I spent trying to beat the game. I felt like a god amongst men while I was slashing enemies to pieces.

☠ Difficulty ☠
I would say the difficulty is hard. It was very hard to master the combat, but once you get the hang of it you can almost fly through the game. Furthermore, the game will very much play on your psyche and make you tense. It makes it a little more difficult.
The biggest kicker- if you die too many times in the game you will permanently lose your save.

§ Bugs §
There really aren't any problematic bugs in the game. Just a few where I couldn't open a door unless I clicked at the right angle. It was kinda annoying to spend 15 minutes trying to find out how to open a door, and then having to lookup the walk through to make sure I wasn't missing puzzle. It happens maybe twice in the game.

☯ Story ☯
**EXCELLENT**. The story had me in awe at the end, and it absolutely is not what I expected. I think the game devs worked really hard to make sure they made the visions and voices accurate the mental illnesses they were portraying. I think the actress for Senua did an excellent job creating realistic motion capture for the dialogue and story progression. When I completed the game, the final cut scene is what gave me my newfound appreciation for this piece, and it's what drives me to write this review.

⚔ Gameplay ⚔
The game play is very challenging in my opinion. Not only is the combat somewhat similar to Dark souls (lots of dodging and the occasional quick attacks), but there are puzzles all throughout the game. The puzzles can be quite complex, as they are often optical illusions that take near 15-20 minutes to solve. Additionally, they can be multiple step puzzles where you will have to teleport through time, or through versions of reality. You'll have combat stages in between, and honestly it's extremely engaging.

۞ Game time / Length ۞
The game time was actually pretty short. The majority of my reviews are after 100 or so hours of play, but I was able to finish this game in about 7 hours of straight game play. I listed it as a 11 because it can definitely take that long if you get stuck on a puzzle or on a certain boss fight. I do not let this detract from the game in ANY way, because if the game was too much longer, losing your save from deaths would become a much more daunting task. I think that because the game is short, it balances that factor out.

$ Price / Quality $
HellBlade currently shows as $29.99 USD on steam at the time I am writing this review. I do not recall what the price was when I purchased it shortly after launch, but if I remember correctly, it was about the same price. Honestly? I would pay that price again. However, because the game play is so short, if you can catch it on a sale (like $25) then totally go for it. It's worth it when you beat it.
Review Showcase
7/10. The Binding of Isaac is a game that is based off random generation for each seed, and you have to fight to win the game. It's super fun, and it's honestly one of my favorites. I'm totaling over 550 hours including both my Switch and PC accounts. Full review below. I'm marking it as 7 because it's extremely difficult, and while very rewarding to win, it can be soul killing to lose over and over.

I think that the Binding of Isaac is not for easily sickened or faint of heart people. It's a lot of peepee poopoo humor, and lots of arcade style blood and grossness. It's lots of fun if you enjoy that stuff, as sometimes the enemies can be fun concepts of normally gross topics (like colostomy bags).
There's also a lot of innuendos throughout the whole game, many of them having to do with biblical references, or old sayings that refer to abuse and neglect.

-- PC Requirements --
I don't think Isaac really requires an amazing PC to play. I would definitely say that older graphics cards may struggle a little with the latest DLC or with harder levels. This is because sometimes the game can struggle with rendering all of the tears, flies and other entities in the game. This can cause a bit of lag sometimes. I experience this occasionally when fighting bosses like It Lives on my GTX 1660ti. I personally don't find this to be too much of a bother, because all it does is slow down the game to a manageable pace. It can actually make it easier to beat bosses using the lag. Once the lag ends the game doesn't try to 'catch up' so you don't have to worry about going hyper speed and running into bullets and taking damage.

☼ Graphics ☼
I personally love the pixel art that is featured in this game. There is an option for rounded edges, but I don't like it. It's an option for you if you're into that though! I think that the graphics in the game while simple are a development of multiple layers. Ed pays a lot of attention to the background of the game, and uses that to set the stage for the rest of the enemies and items to come. In Afterbirth and Repentance, you even get a 'moving' background in a way where a filter is applied to the background in the Womb to cause a 'flowing' sensation to the eye. I really see this concept shine when you get into later unlocked chapters like the Cathedral or Sheol.

♬ Music ♬
To be honest, the music is probably one of my favorite parts of this game. It's not gonna be some cinematic masterpiece with lots of variety like Skyrim, or AC Black Flag and other games known for their music, BUT I think that stereo headphones in this game will truly provide you a better experience. The mixing in this game is pretty amazing if you ask me, and if I partake in some jazz cabbage, I can just put my headphones on, close my eyes, and listen to the symphony of discord that was created to accompany this artwork of dissent into madness. Each chapter comes with it's own set of music to match the background, enemies, and mood of the game. Fantastic work by Ed and his team.

☠ Difficulty ☠
This game is easy to play, but pretty difficult to master. It's the only bullet hell I've ever played, but I've died... countless times. Actually, no, let me check - 316 times at the time of this review on my PC account. I'm not going to go check how many times I've died on my Switch account lol.
If you want to see someone who I feel has truly mastered the game, I recommend watching Sinvicta play Isaac on youtube. Man has pretty much 100% the game (which is actually extremely f***ing hard, you have to do it on all three save profiles), so I suspect he easily has over 1000 hours in the game.

§ Bugs §
I've only encountered 1 or 2 bugs AFTER I bought Repentance DLC. I never experienced an issue with Afterbirth+ DLC. The issues I found with Repentance was that once or twice, if I had a certain item combo, in a very specific level, and used it in a very specific way- the game would hard crash. I could go back to the level I was playing, and it would put me back in the previous room. I could essentially repeat this over and over if I wanted. I reported the issue and haven't seen it since. Highly unlikely you would ever experience this bug.

☯ Story ☯
The story is technically very short (you get the entire origin story every time you start the game. Don't worry, it's skippable). The rest of the story is unlocked in Endings. You unlock the different endings as you beat different 'final' bosses throughout the game. I think in total with Repentance DLC, there are 15 or 16 different endings.
If you wish to go further and beyond, then technically you unlock a smidgen of story with each item and achievement in the game. All items and achievements are innuendos, allusions or references in some way or fashion. Some of them are from an older generation (my dad told me about the item "Latch Key", and its references which were a common phrase in the 80's). Others are a touch more modern, or are just straight biblical references. It's cool in a way, though. Most of them are bastardizations of the stories many religious groups tell. It's very cool if you can look at it objectively.

⚔ Gameplay ⚔
Gameplay is frustrating as hell, but it's rewarding when you actually win. Each game is a 'round' in a way. You earn items in that run, you play a different floor map in that run, you fight different bosses in that run. All based off of the seed for the run. If you die, you start a new run. So you never really 'keep' anything you collect in a run. Some unlocks will give your characters starting items, though.
I cannot tell you how many times I have had a really good combination of items, and then I get hit by a stray bullet and die. So many times. I've come to just lay on my floor and pout underneath a blanket any time it happens.

۞ Game time / Length ۞
Each run can be as short as a few minutes. Depends on how long you can last against the enemies. The longest run I have ever had (which was a combo that allowed me to just stand still and wait for the enemies to come within range so they would die) took me about an hour. That's because I went all the way to the final boss for that floor and beat Mega Satan with it.
The reason I also marked that the length can be extremely long, is because the playability of this game extends that long. You can unlock new characters, new items, new chapters, new stories, and always find pretty much something new every time. New combos, new enemies, always something.

$ Price / Quality $
I personally think this game is worth full price if this is the style of game you enjoy. I've bought it twice. Once for Switch (Afterbirth+) and then again on PC when I heard they were releasing Repentance.
If you can get it on sale, then do it (because saving money ofc), but I honestly don't think you'd be missing out much if you can afford it for full price.
