This game is meh, if I could leave a mixed rating I would.
(Beating up random homeless people and drug addicts is kinda fun).

I want to first question why so many reviews say this game is "scary" or "suspenseful".
Throughout the entire game I had my brain turned off and just smacked homeless people.
The only times I was ever "scared" were sort of expected, but still random, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ jumpscares (which there are like 3 of).
So for a horror game, I was "scared" for about 3 seconds.
(The horror tag really shouldn't be on here, and it isn't psychological horror either so don't try say that). Thriller I can get behind.

This game feels horrible from the perspective of someone playing it for the first time 17 years later.
The movement is AWFUL, you run how an old person with knee problems walks, and you can't even walk (or run) normal speed up or down stairs or slopes. Running up or down a slope/stair or even small object on the ground will continue to use stamina even though the speed doesn't change.
-This is really noticeable when there are no enemies to fight and there is just a 3 minute walking simulator.

The melee combat itself was probably good for the time, but it feels so awkward. The enemy melee swings are very unpredictable in terms of them hitting you, sometimes you can be quite a distance and they still connect, or right next to them and they miss even though it hit you. The blocking feels like a 75/25 gamble on whether or not it actually works.

The sound is kind of weird, sometimes I couldn't tell whether an enemy was right behind me or decently far. Also, during the train section, I don't even think there was a single noise coming from the MOVING TRAIN. The main menu theme is pretty fitting, but I feel like a lot of the other music is an odd choice.

The story is somewhat interesting, at least better than watching paint dry. (It's not that bad, until the end).
Supernatural things did not belong in this story.
This city also needs Batman.

Ragdolls are pretty funny sometimes and unpredictable (like some of them just spinning for forever).
Also, the game is unplayable if you don't download a separate file and put it in the condemned folder (not surprising for older titles).
(Beating up random homeless people and drug addicts is kinda fun).
