“You wanna know something funny? Even after everything you’ve done, I still would’ve saved you.”

The relationship between Batman and the Joker is at the heart of these games and none do it better than Arkham City. The Joker comes up with the ultimate scheme that not even Batman himself can see coming. They know each other so well and The Joker uses that to his advantage by outsmarting him. “How do you keep a secret from the World’s Greatest Detective? Well do you know? You stick it right in front of him, right under his long pointy nose and wait.” It’s such a great story and it’d be great if that was all there was but there’s much more at play than that. Hugo Strange, after years of disappearing from Gotham is put in charge of the SuperMax prison known as Arkham City, built in the heart of Gotham. On top of that, the gang leaders in the prison are fighting a war in Arkham City. Penguin, Two-Face and Joker are fighting for territory within the prison and when word gets out that the Joker is sick, Penguin and Two-Face see this as a golden opportunity to take over Arkham City. Along the way, Batman also has run ins with Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Mr. Freeze, Solomon Grundy, Ra’s al Ghul, The Riddler and many others. It’s some of Paul Dini’s best work and it’s a shame he didn’t return for Arkham Knight because it truly could’ve been an amazing end to an already iconic trilogy.
