Over time, NINJA GAIDEN SIGMA has become one of my all time favorites. The skill ceiling is incredibly high and the combat is truly timeless one you get the hang of it. People may look at this game from a modern standpoint and only see a clunky camera and unfair difficulty, but underneath the surface is some of the most exhilarating action/hack’n’slash combat out there. It was truly ahead of its time when it came out, and still holds the test of time IMO.

The difficulty is also really well implemented, and encourages improvement. What I mean by this is, each difficulty trains you for the next one. I used to barely scrape by on Normal difficulty, but as I beat the game on Hard and Very Hard I continued to learn more and more about how to approach the game. Now i’m on master ninja and it’s a struggle but it’s nice to see how much I’ve improved.

My only gripe is that for the master collection version of Sigma 1, they actually use the PS Vita version of the game, known as Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus. While this version has its fair share of great additions and changes, it’s also just straight up graphically inferior to the PS3 version in a few ways. Why they chose to port the Vita version to PC instead of the PS3 version is a mystery to me.

Regardless, I’m just glad we have a PC port for this amazing series, even if this is not the best version of the game. I just wish the modding scene for Master Collection was more popular, because the selection of mods is very sparse. There are some really cool ones out there though.
