After 50 hours of playing the game. I'd say my opinion on the PC port is still somewhat mixed and it's definitely not positive from the technical side of things.

I managed to get the game for 786 russian rubels(which equals to around 12$) and I'd say the PC port is worth buying if you manage to get it for something within the price tag of 20$. And if you have a PS4, I'd undoubtedly recommend the PS4 version over this and the switch version any day.

It utterly frustrates me that it has been over a year now and NIS left the port issues unfixed as I know for a fact things were much more horrible in the beginning and people still face crashes and freezes. Some face them more frequently than I do.

My experience of the PC port:

I've faced not too many but still a handful of crashes and screen freezes in my 50 hours in the game so far. The game crashed at the beginning for 2-3 times while crashed in the middle of cutscenes 3 times. And completely froze at random places for a couple of times. My biggest complaint is that the animated opening video is broken for some unholy reason. The video is very glitchy and jitters constantly. The sound and the video get desynced as well. And it's the video itself which is broken as the problems are always the same no matter howmany times I replay it, whether from the main menu or the gallery.

As for the game itself:

I have first finished the game on PS4 last year and it instantly became one of my most favorite games. I haven't really encountered too many of such games which can uplift my mood almost instantly just by playing the game. It's an incredible beautiful game through and through.

Gameplay:

It's easy to say it's artistically the peak of the Ys games from Ys SEVEN. The gameplay, the combat and the visuals all have improved and are much more polished from SEVEN and Celceta. While like all other Ys games excluding I&II, the basic combat and exploration at it's core is still the same old Ys.

Map/World:

The game has a massive map which never runs out of content. You may think things get repetitive but no. The explore-able areas all have something new to offer throughout the entire map and the best part is that new enemies keep coming. Yes there is a good amount of reskined enemies in newer and later areas, but there is no shortage of completely new enemies either, till the LAST dungeon.

Story:

The story on the other hand is extremely beautiful as well. Parts of the story concept is somewhat similar to that of Ys SEVEN and the way how the story progresses is somewhat similar to that of Celceta. But they way those ideas have been reworked and tied up together is remarkable and it definitely feels quite natural. And I believe it's safe to say Ys VIII handled both of those concepts much better.

My Final Verdict:

I've played every Ys game available on PC and finished all of them except for Origins. And I believe it's safe to say it's the best Ys game of all (excluding Origin as I haven't finished it) and is a MUST buy for anyone who is a Ys fan or is interested in a great action RPG in general.
However for the PC port issues I would strongly recommend to get the game on PS4 instead if you can. But if you can't then despite it's issues, I would next recommend the PC port. Vita port lacks some really amazing content and the game really isn't meant to be played on 30FPS which makes the Switch port significantly inferior as well.
