999 and VLR. Two of the most games I thought I would not have enjoyed...

I was sadly mistaken.

Normally, I'm not one for puzzle games so I have to admit, when I first heard of anything of the Zero Escape franchise, I was thinking, maybe not. The first time heard was the advertisments for Zero Time Dilemma here and I thought, pfft. Another puzzle game I would not be interested in. When I watched a youtuber play a bit of it, I was then thinking, looks interesting and searched up the franchise. I then found out that after a bit after the release of ZTD, they would then remaster the Nonary games on Steam and PS4. I decided on the whim to get Steams version because they had a sale recently to get the the bundle. Anyways, this isn't the point!

The point is that I normally dislike puzzle escape games, any puzzle games in general really. However, 999 changed that for me. It was fun and creative in how you would escape the rooms. As well as that, there were creative paths for the many different endings. The other thing is this. If you have played Until Dawn, then you will know about the Butterfly Effect (also can be referred to Ripple). Your decisions change the outcome in the games. It was interesting to see that incoporated in the game, and how you would have to alter your decisions to make sure you make the good endings.

VLR also incorporates it. As well as that, there are more puzzles to go through. However, not goijng to lie. Some of the puzzles in the second game got harder and more challenging, so sometimes I got stressed out and had to take a break, especially when finding the secondary passwords to unlock the "Redacted" achievment. I managed to get through the two games in 52 hours with 100% achievments. I have to admit, it was also quite challenging needing to go back to certain points or finding clues that would unlock other points as you could not continue without certain passwords or whatever. That's about the only thing I didn;t like about the game. The constant returning to areas to look for things you should have noted down, whereas in 999, the things you unlock does not need passwords.

Despite this, this game has made me slightly interested more in puzzle games. The game can be played in English and Japanese (in my case, I played the game in English with Japanese voices). It was interesting to see some of my favourite voice actors here in a few anime and different games (in this case, the voice actor for Quark was the VA for Alhonse Elric from Full Metal Alchemist, and Zero Junior's voice was done by the VA of Monokuma (can't remember if it was the game or anime though).

This game is great for both puzzle and anime enthsiasts, and those that like games that involve changing futures with the butterfly effect.

My personal rating of the game: 10/10, despite the reptitiveness at times.
