So I finished the game in 10 hours and bought it for 20 bucks. Would I say it's worth it at 2 bucks/hr?

Yeah, absolutely!

There's a lot of replayability, I'd say it gives the game a solid 20-30 hour playtime and for the money and the quality, absolutely worth it. The writing is pretty interesting, quirky, there's only one or two times I can think of where I think the lead writer was trying to meet a deadline but there's a lot of different story threads that appear in tons of different ways.

The characters are all connected and you experience them in various ways since you never actually play the same hitchhiker, but a series of them. Your choices do actually shift the story quite a bit and how previous hitch-hikers interacted with reoccuring characters changes how those characters interact with you to some degree! There's also differences between each hitchhiker that are interesting to figure out - you can use a pay phone to call home, and depending on the teenager home responds a LOT differently (if at all) than others.

The graphics are nice, kind of in a weird place between Life is Strange and Firewatch, but they work and are memorable enough. It is probably where the game is lacking the most, though; with the graphics card requirements it makes me think it might not be all that well optimized but my rig is pretty far past the requirements so I honestly just don't know.

If there's any real reservations to have about the story, it is very political-but that's because it is literally about an election in a dictatorship, tension building closer and closer to this election. It can get pretty heavy handed occasionally but it also makes sense for the world your in-and you can choose how political or not you are as you go along. I don't think it takes away very much, but I was glad to be aware of it before I played, if that makes sense?

Overall, solid game, solid price for it at about 20 bucks considering the replayability (even if you never replay it I wouldn't say it's NOT worth it) with interesting characters that are pretty memorable, especially John and Jerod, and an interesting way of progressing through a story. I would enjoy seeing other games about hitchhikers in a similar sense-where scary things can happen but it's not a horror game.
