If there was ever a game that stood the test of time, it would be AoE2. You can play a variety of game modes, like FFA, Wonder Race, 2v2, etc. It even has multiple campaigns that are fully voice acted (execpt The Forgotton Kindoms dlc) and tons of different multiplayer maps to fight and explore on. You even have access to a scenario editor where you can make your own campaign(s), or your own multiplayer map. You also have access to the steam workshop to install and upload mods. Then Each civ in this game has different unique abilites that effect the way you play. For example the Goths infantry are cheaper and created faster then normal, which makes them great for rushing and overwhelming their enemies. So you can be rest assured that there will be a civ the fits perfectly to your personal play style. After so many years of this game being out (1999 realease date) the devs still update the game, for bug fixes and balancing out the civs.

But there are a few problems lag and dysnc can be a problem for online play. I swear the AI cheats on the harder difficulties. For some reason my campaign games all reseted making it where i have to start from the beginning and im not sure why. Some times your units will take the longest, and stupidest route to get from point A to point B; for example walking straight across an enemies town. There is also some other minor bugs you that you may experience.

If you are even remotely intrested in strategy games, Age of Empires II is a must buy.
