"It is a really fun game to play if you are into pixeltaed games (such as Minecraft, etc.) and if you are in to fighting enemeies. I recommend this game to all player who play the survival and crafting genre. Though I wish I could play it on my Mac instead of my Windows."

A Little Older, A Little Wiser

Reflection on The Past

Words cannot describe well enough how I feel about this game after 7 years have passed. From the very first day I was gifted this game from my aunt, I remember holding the DVD box in my hand, eager to play it on her Windows Dell laptop. I remember opening the box, looking at the disc inside, seeing the trading cards the developers packed inside fall out onto the table. I remember making a Steam account years before when I had watched a Youtube "Let's play" hoping to play it for myself, only to realize I had no idea how the platform worked. Now as 7 years have passed, add that to over 400+ hours of this game, I can safely safe that this game has blossomed into a monumental game, a legendary game that has made a community so deeply invested to create art, mods, forums to make boss strategy guides, and countless "Let’s plays" spread throughout the Internet. This was my first game on Steam.

My first world, one that I have still to this day, was an unknown world, vast in content, creativity surging through the code, an art style I thought at one point "isn't this kinda dated?", all slowly poked and prodded my brain as I built my first wooden home. I remember dying countless times to The Eye of Cthulhu due to my ineptitude at the time. I was a 4th grader at the time; young and hasty. But I also remember the feeling of accomplishment when I slew The Eye, a brief moment of happiness before I soon found several more adversaries to face.

I also remembered confusing Hard Mode and Hardcore Mode which made me hesitate fighting The Wall of Flesh. I didn't know Hard Mode would just be a step forward into progressing in this game, I had feared that if I died after killing The Wall of Flesh , I'd lose the world I so dearly loved. I soon found out, my worries were wasted.

Opening the door to Hard Mode invited me to countless new enemies to bludgeon me at every turn. New weapons to slay my foes, new biomes to explore, all of it was a rush.

The Present And to The Future

I have seen this game age like a fine wine. I still have the same box that I was gifted many years ago. Several updates passed over the years adding countless hours of content and things to do. In high school, I convinced one of my friends to buy this game and give it a try. He was skeptical since he wasn't into sandbox games, but he gave it a try. He now has over 116 hours amassed, all while spending 90% with me in the worlds we created.

A year ago, I found out Terraria could be modded. The same feeling of excitement of new content being added to challenge yourself, to show off your building skills, to build the most overpowered character was once again felt. My friend and I modded our vanilla world and began playing for hours on end. tModloader wasn't something you could download off Steam, you'd have to have found it on a forum titled "How to install mods on Terraria!"; a small obstacle, but nothing new.

Terraria has a special place in my heart as being the introduction to the Steam platform and being the first DVD video game I had ever played. To see Terraria put up its last update left me almost sad to read. The name of the update "Journey's End" could not have hit me harder as it truly was the end of a long journey. The developers who crafted his game, the geniuses who conceived the idea of this game, the artists who painstakingly poured their heart into this game have come to an end per-sey .

Terraria has remained a testament to gaming in my eyes as a standout game among many if not just within the realm of Indie games. This game has gifted me with several hours of fun, more enjoyment than what was paid for, and yet, here I am typing this. Journey's End is a bittersweet ending but one that was well deserved. Several hours of hard work by talented developers brought us this near flawless game.

Here's to looking forward to the next great game!
