It's... It's getting there.

I would buy this if you haven't already. This game does have a slightly steep learning curve but once over that hump it is quite entertaining. Iv'e actually played this game quite alot, I used to have something like 150 hours in it.

The only downside to this game (if you can call it a downside) is that the game kinda makes you find ways to "meta" the system. Such as shooting enemies from legdes or hanging off vines to avoid the lava worm.

In my opinion however, such a consept actually helps the game estabish its brand and forces the player to evolve.

TL;TR: Go play Dust and the Stanley parable, you will get the same experience and probably enjoy yourself more.

So I'll be honest, I really wanted to like this game. I went and got (almost) all the achievements and I unlocked all the endings. In the end I came out from that experience feeling disappointed. I played in hard mode too BTW.

Ill break it up to explain my initial statement,

The Combat:

I would rate the combat in I.C.E.Y as mediocre at best, and repetitive and boring at worst. I've beaten every enemy in the game (Except trinity) and I can say that there is no originality in the combat system. Often times the way to win is to use your nearly unlimited dash to stay above the enemies' attacks and spam all the buttons. Now, the concept where you can shadow attack your enemies, and the finishers are cool at first. However, after about 4 hours I started to realize that there are no repercussions for just spamming the keys. If you get prompted to finish an enemy with "F" and you spam every button on the keyboard (or controller) yet somehow still manage to hit "F", it will still count and finish the enemy.

The combat system at its core does not encourage precision, it rewards reckless attacks. Even with some cool combos (and some of them were pretty cool) it made no difference. I would like to reference the "Atomic Weapon Theory", or whatever it's called. It is the concept that if the player discovers a foolproof, easy way to kill enemies effectively, they will never do anything different. This game suffers deeply from that concept. I think the only enemy that I actually had to think to try to beat was Jack, and he's not even a part of the main story. Every other enemy has exactly one attack you need to avoid in a specific manner or you'll end up dead. For Thor, it's that you need to stay off the ground. For Carlos, it's that you need to stay behind him. For Ideon and Judas, it's that you need to rotate around the lasers. The list goes on, each boss has one unique thing about them and that's it.

I cannot help but feel that the mechanics were directly ripped from Dust. Go play that if you want good combat.

The Music:

Not gonna lie, the music was pretty good.

The Art:

Art was beautiful to look at, most of the time. I think all the budget went into the art and music.

The Economy:

There is no economy. You can easily cheat the game to get unlimited cash and there are no consumables.

The Story:

Some spoilers from here on out.

The game's story is almost exactly like the Stanley Parable... Except worse. The narrator is annoying, from his voice to the lines he says. You could probably get better emotion out of that guy from blade runner... or Rich Evans. Almost every line he says sounds like he's a 5-year-old who just got back from theatre class.

Every ending you can get (and I mean every, freaking ending) is easy to acquire. All you need to do is go directly against whatever the narrator says at all times, and you're good to go.

The baseline story (what happens if you only do what the "narrator" tells you) is boring. Big bad guy wants to destroy the world (who cares). There are some hints that maybe he's not just a big bad guy, but nothing ever comes of it.

The expanded story (what happens if you go against the narrator) .... is boring. Honestly, I'll admit it was kind of cool to go off the grid and see how he would react, but after the fifth time it got repetitive. I think the only original thing that happens is that in the theatre he gets shot by his wife, and you get to hear some incantations about Cthulhu. But that's it. Like, there's not substance to it. Each ending is easy to get and the bad acting and lackluster story just don't cut it for me. In the end you find out that Judas was actually trying to stop the rise of Cthulhu by doing a horrible sacrifice or something but like i said before, by the time I got there I just didn't care anymore. There are other things you find out too that are supposed to be "mind-blowing" like when you find UCEY, but it's all so... bland. There is no character development for ICEY in the first place so when I found UCEY I was just like: "meh, so what." The game doesn't give you a reason to care about any character in the game.

Go play the Stanley parable, it has a better story and better Meta elements. Also, I think there was an aspect of that one unicorn ♥♥♥♥♥ game that this game took, you know the one where you are a crusader stuck in a time loop and ♥♥♥♥♥ is making you play his game about unicorns? The UI in that game was probably ripped to make this one.

In other words, not a bad game I guess, but go play The Stanley parable, Dust, and Unicorn Island Adventure. You will get each element this game ripped, just better.

Anmeldelse for emne med tidlig adgang
Iv'e had my eye on this game ever since Markiplier first reviewed it some time ago. I have only recently been able to play this game due to some complications with my account but it has been worth the (2 year) wait. This game wields several tools other games wish they could have such as great immersivness, cool graphics, active dev teams, and a big scary blue ball that has things in it that will eat you.

Keep in mind, this game is not finished, and every once in a while will get an update that will leave the game worse off untill the next update. There is alot that needs to be added and fixed before this game can be considered "whole" but I have confidence this shall happen.

The game currently holds fragments of a perfect ocean survival simulator, or whatever you want to call it, they simply need to be refined. Whether it be a way for the player to aquire rescources in the endgame, or just more equipment and ships more can and will be added in the future.

As it stands, its fun and would almost reccomend the game if it was already a finished game... almost.
