Cruelty Squad has inspired me to maybe make my own game some day.

Perhaps I too can give people seizures.

TL;DR: Avoid doing jobs and never do random encounters. Stick to the story and only divert for blue side-quests. Both of which are great but all else will disappoint. Still recommend probably on sale. First game was better for what it was.

As much as I love this game, I think it lacks depth. It feels as though it comes *Just shy of becoming an immersive world, and instead becomes a slightly stagnate playground that becomes more stale the more of the story one plays.

To me, it falls short; but that could be because I want so much more than what is realistic. The combat is fluid, dynamic, and satisfying. The environments are varied and stunning. Every frame taken from any play-through would probably look good on a wall. I have some minor complaints about ship hardpoints and variety but those are secondary.

The real issue with Everspace 2 is the game-play loop. Either you play out the story (which is fun and interesting) in what feels like less than 20 hours, or you grind through jobs until you're bored. I diddn't want this game to be done but every story beat felt like the last leg of the journey which kept me in a constant state of unease. This is probably due to the episodic nature in which the game was released and it is to its detriment.

It feels like it suffers from mile-wide inch-deep syndrome, but to be fair, not as bad as No Man's Sky when it was released. This could also be due to the pedantic random encounters that only inflate the anemic playtime with meaningless and hollow hours.

Way too many technical issues, without them it would be fine.

They added private lobbies so the game is now playable.

This game as many uses on the social level.

Want to know what kind of person someone is? Find out what bosses they are good at or struggled with.

Want to find potential friends in a crowd of strangers? Simply yell "praise the sun" with the proper gesture. (this will also expose enemies)

Want to assert your dominance? Loudly proclaim you've beaten the game without summoning or embers. (may also remove weaker, less dominant friends)

In short, Dark souls is a more successful social media than facebook ever was.

Not terrible, but I honestly just felt bored and frustrated during the whole experience.

Bottom line, the game isn't polished enough to warrant its own difficulty.

I honestly felt like I was playing someones' first game on game maker. And... if that's the case... good job keep trying.

Go play Celeste.
