This game is so much fun when you have friends to play with. The more people there are in the game the more chaotic the kitchen is. I recommend you play this with four people for maximum enjoyment and lots of shouting.

With the new mechanic of throwing ingredients added to the game, we can see how much of a difference there is to gameplay where some levels required users to be on different platforms while unable to traverse to other platforms so the levels would be impossible without being able to toss items around. For this reason alone, when playing single player, you are required to play with two chefs which involve a lot of skill and coordination. It is also rather satisfying when you throw ingredients straight into the pots and pans that they need to go into as it involves a lot of accuracy.

The game does scale the number of points needed to get each star depending on the number of people playing (where more people equals more points needed) which I really like as it means that playing with additional players doesn’t necessarily mean that you will get 3 stars for every level and being alone won’t mean you are at a disadvantage in terms of points needed. 4 stars are now a thing which makes the game very difficult and requires you to make minimal mistakes.

There are a lot of additional recipes and ingredients so that even if you played the first Overcooked you will still have many new things to learn. And with more ingredients, the complexity of the game increases. There are many levels with different obstacles like one in particular which requires you to use the fire extinguisher as there are flames that will block your path to slow you down. There are also magic portals that work by teleporting you from one portal to another. These portals are colour coded so that if there are multiple portals around, you will know where you will end up if you enter it. There are also moving staircases that make mobility harder and require you to choose a different path when going to a location. Windstorms are also included which push you from side to side and make it hard to move around the map. There are also conveyor belts like the original game which may need to be used to move ingredients or even you as a chef around. Some levels also make the whole map change so at one second you make be making burgers and in the next, you may be making sushi with completely different ingredients.

There is a lot of customisation in the game where you can unlock different chefs for completing levels. Not only this but there is a large amount of work put into the design of the levels. There are many unique settings in the game such as being in a hot air balloon, the mines, a wizard school, white water rafting, and many more. There is also a large interactive map that allows you drive around a vehicle on the road, in water, or fly in the air depending on the terrain of the tile you are on which I think is a neat little visual feature added to the game. You are required to push buttons on the map which brings up ramps that can be used to move to a different location. There are some secret levels named “Kevin” that can be unlocked when getting 3 stars on certain levels.

One of the best features is that you can now play online with friends. One of the main reasons of the game is to be played with friends and it wasn’t possible to play unless you were all sitting in the same room. This means that it is now possible for me and another friend in a different city to play together which was not possible in the original Overcooked. You are also able to play online with other people which is nice when you have nobody nearby to play with but one of the problems is that Overcooked 2 is a very which needs a lot of communication and when you have to communicate through emotes instead of voice chatting it makes the game very difficult. Personally, I don’t recommend playing with strangers online as it requires too much coordination to succeed.

Ghost Town Games is a great developer as they keep on adding new content through DLCs. What I appreciate most is how they released a “seasonal updates” DLC which is free for all owners of the game. This current free DLC gives you levels that are based on the content from the other DLCs to so that you can have a taste of different gameplay without having to purchase additional content. This shows that Ghost Town Games as a company do not only care about money and want to give users the chance to keep enjoying the game even if they can’t afford to purchase more content.

Overcooked 2 is a great successor to the original and gives a lot of improvements to the gameplay while adding many different elements to the game which makes it more challenging. Whether you are playing with 1, 2, 3, or 4 people you will definitely have a lot of fun.
