If I was writing this review a year after release instead of current year, I'd be recommending it instead of recommending against it. The gameplay is nothing short of amazing, with every character and mastermind having their own unique style and strategy. The objectives for the survivors are simple but just complex enough to make the game interesting to play for hours at a time; and unleashing your tyrant as the mastermind with an army of BOWs at your back to combat the survivor team is super satisfying and cinematic in a way that only Resident Evil can be. BUT! The game was killed by a plethora of things that can only be described as a damn shame. Probably one of the biggest L's I've seen since Evolve. The game was disregarded by a lot of Resident Evil fans because it wasn't PVE, which is something that I think will never stop sucking. I really think people should be more willing to give the RE side-projects a shot. But that's not all that killed the game. Cheaters took over like crazy due to an anticheat system that did not get updated or patched enough, and a bad netcode that came from peer-to-peer connectivity. Why on Earth Capcom, one of the biggest companies in gaming didn't set up an asymmetrical multiplayer game with dedicated servers is beyond me. And THAT'S NOT ALL! The balancing and MMR in the game are nonexistent. Brand new Masterminds can get put up against maxed out survivors and get absolutely trounced because they have no perks or augmentations to make sure that their creatures can stay alive or deal damage. This goes both ways as well, with brand new survivors getting put up against Masterminds that have maxed out perks and crazy-strong card decks full of stuff that new Masterminds don't have access to without gaining levels; meaning that those survivors can't stay alive long enough to push their abilities or draw their weapons. The lack of a true MMR/ELO system leads to more imbalanced matches later in the game's life. Which is why I would say this game did so well on arrival and then flubbed once the hype died down; because even though the game didn't have the same hype the the upcoming RE4 remake has for example, there were still fans of the game's genre as well as franchise that were looking forward to it. Pulling in people from the DBD, Friday the 13th, etc. fanbases as well as existing Resident Evil fans that were skeptical but overall wanted to at least give the game a shot. And the game was glorious for the first couple of months. Everyone was relatively close to each other in level and strategies were still being discovered. And even after the first month when they added a new survivor (Jill Valentine) and new Mastermind (Nicholai w/ Nemesis) the game was still going pretty strong. But then the updates dropped dead with the game, and unfortunately- unlike the zombies you can control- I don't think it'll be getting back up any time soon. Maybe if people are satisfied with RE4 remake and we get a possible remake of Outbreak or Code Veronica we'll get some kind of operation health for this game, but even that seems unlikely...

Overall/TL;DR
Resistance is a game that was good at it's launch and could have been so much better. But got stale quickly to fans of the game and fell victim to a plethora of problems that could have been alleviated by some micromanagement by a dedicated Resistance team at Capcom watching this game and improving it when needed. The roadmap was a step in the right direction, but the unfortunate reality is that it doesn't matter how good of a foundation you have; if just a couple of pillars are put in the wrong place, everything will come crashing down.

If this game had consistent support from Capcom it'd be a 10/10 easily. It would blow every other 4v1 game out of the water in an instant, no contest. But because it is literally not a game anymore I can't even give it a rating, but the lack of balance and overall amount of cheaters that you'd probably face puts it at a ballpark estimate of a 2/10. You might get one good game out of 50, but I wouldn't put money on it...
