Okay so after a few weeks of troubleshooting I got the game working... for the most part. It still stuttered under 30 fps occasionally but it was playable. Despite having all of the recommended specs for it but whatever.
That being said I'm going to reserve my final judgement on the visuals until I can upgrade my system so that it doesn't look like a dried wank stain.
Other than that I mean it's the same deal as 2016 doom except with more emphasis on speed, parkour, and resource management.
Doom guy now has abilities which are great for restoring your ammo, armor and health on the fly, so the key to survival is using these abilities to ward off hordes of hellish creatures.
At times this can feel like a tightrope walk compared to 2016's pacing where glory kills were the main source of resource replenishment.
Theirs nothing wrong with ho eternal approaches it I just think I prefer how 2016 in this regard.
Another thing I prefer form 2016 was the games tone, in this game doom guy does some insanely stupid and ridiculous things like launch himself out of a canon to another planet with nothing to cushion his fall and get up like nothing happened?
Or how enemy glory kills sport cartoonish and goofy sound effects, especially the cacodemon. It was very out of place.
But hey! An even better map system and fast travel means that my one gripe with 2016 is gone too, with cooler collectibles to find like songs and figures of enemies and extra costumes.
Once I got the classic marine skin I never took it off I love how that one looks in particular.
Eternal gets a lot of things right overall. Can't wait to revisit this one again.
If your expecting a direct upgrade from 2016 you might not find it here, the game goes in it's own direction with a couple of things that feel like downgrades from it's predecessor.
But judged in a vacuum it's still a fun, fast paced arena shooter that is really satisfying to master.

What do you get when you take a classic Doom's from the 90's, add some parkour for quick air movement, a reliable and helpful map system, and some general new shooterisms? You get one of the best games in the whole doom series in my opinion. Any and all gripes I had with the older games, no matter how small, have been ironed out leaving an experience that is polished to perfection.
Secrets are easy to spot with a keen eye often behind routes off the beaten path, none are mandatory but they are encouraged as most of them host upgrades to your character and weapons. Yes there are some RPG elements in here as well.
there are less maps then even Doom 1 but to compensate they are large, complex, and fun to explore. my only complaint is that doors will lock behind you making it impossible to back track at points, causing me to miss upgrades and collectibles more than once.
Combat rewards you for being fast on your feet, with a double jump and ledge grab that make circle strafing around combat arenas fun and satisfying.
I'm actually really appreciative of this game the way it is, I consider the structure and pacing to be an improvement over the original games but with the the classics being preserved the way they are and still being sold means that people who might not like the new style still get some love too.
I highly recommend the classics and I highly recommend this!

When it comes to 90's Doom, it doesn't get better than this in my eyes.
Doom 64's levels are perfect, with progression that feels intuitive, switches and key items being easily discernible able from a distance, secrets that keep you well stocked on ammo that aren't too cryptic, wide open spaces to fight harder enemies. Basically it's what I love about Doom 2 with level design that feels more like Doom 1 and even a little bit of Doom 3's atmosphere. It's got everything
Very glad this gem was released on steam and other platforms cuz playing this on og hardware with an N64 controller and 12 character passwords sounds like a nightmare.

I used the BFG edition to play the whole trilogy so I'll drop the review for all 3 games right here.
I lived to regret this because I didn't realize that the listings for 1 and 2 on steam come with enhanced ports of those games with a smoother frame rate, level select, and better soundtrack so... oops?

Any way I'll start with 3 since that's what this listing is technically for:
I've always heard that Doom 3 was the black sheep of the trilogy and I can see what they mean.
it certainly is the odd one out but in a way that I'm kind of fond of.
Playing Doom 3 is like stepping into an alternate reality where Doom didn't release until the mid 2000's.
this games borrows heavily in terms of tone and pacing from games that Doom inspired like F.E.A.R, Half-Life, and particularly Dead Space.
Which is even stranger when you consider that this game predates Dead Space by 4 years.
Doom is getting in touch with it's survival horror side, with stronger enemies, scarcer resources (at least to start), dim lighting, and slower pace that is far removed from it's arcade shooter prequel's.
And that is bold to say the least, The next numbered sequel after Doom 2 leaves some massive shoes to fill from just it's namesake, so Bethesda and ID took it in a new direction and the tension and atmosphere is palatable throughout.
Is it a worthy successor? Probably not
If you play Doom for the fast paced power fantasy I don't think there is much for you here.
Is it a fun, spooky side-grade that can be thoroughly enjoyed with an open min? Absolutely!
I had a blast overall, ♥♥♥♥ that shotgun tho, I've never used a more limp-♥♥♥♥♥♥ shotgun in any FPS game

Doom 1 has aged like a fine whine:
30 years later and this game is still an amazing shooter with a breakneck pace and a killer soundtrack.
It's charm is almost indescribable, the maps are tightly designed if a lil confusing to navigate at points especially near the end. Not helping matters is an outdated map system , but honestly any negatives I can think of are mitigated by the sheer amount of mods that the extremely dedicated community is releasing to this very day.
Now that's an iceberg that I've barely scratched the surface of!
Off put by the lack of a jump or up-down camera control? there's a mod for that
Would rather have a cross hair? there's a mod for that.
want to explore the vast creative landscape of gems all at no additional cost? go crazy.
Even if you don't want to the base game is still very much ahead of it's time and crafted with care.

Now About Doom 2:
technicality all those mods could be attributed to this games since most WAD's use the Doom 2 engine, which offered bigger levels and more enemy variety thanks to the greater processing power of the standard computer at the time of the game's release.
But what we gained in scope, we lost in fun and fair design.
I am not a fan with Doom 2's reliance on beginners traps and progression being locked behind secrets.
The former causes to me to quick save often like a paranoid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, completely breaking the pace. By the end you become wise to this games tricks and can see traps coming sometimes but it's still exhausting.
And the ladder causes me to run in circles and hump the walls hoping to find the way forward on levels that are already harder to navigate.
No thank you, I had a guide by my side for this one and I cant recommend enough the walkthrough done by Big Mac Davis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcYmNHENHMY&list=PLR2vpfke_UnCcn0aDEyzKTvzic07Vp70y
His soothing voice and professional demeanor kept me calm through some of the more ball busting levels and legit enhanced my experience.
I love the super shotgun but Doom 2 is the low point for me in this series

Playdead is back with another challenging cinematic puzzle platformer where you don't exactly know what's going on in the story upon first blush.

Animation and design wise this is an upgrade from LIMBO. I love how the protagonist is animated here, he feels real despite having no dialogue, he look around when needed and when idle sometimes he'll catch his breath or wipe himself off.
Above all else the animation breathes and I loved that about it.

Puzzles where taxing but fair, there where a couple of gotcha moments that took me right out it at a few points tho.
The "mermaid" enemies about 3/4 of the way through where extremely annoying, though those where the only exceptions I can think of.

The story could be interpreted several ways and leave you thinking about it for some time, I have my own ideas on how it's a metaphor for capitalism treating their workers as disposable resources brought to a post apocalyptic extreme.

Not sure if it was intentional but the last segment of the game was extremely funny and cathartic

So yeah! If your looking for an artsy puzzle platformer that you can beat in 4 hours I cant think of a reason not to check out INSIDE

Cute lil Horror game that clocks in at about 3 hours.
For a mostly one man show, the game knew how deliver some good scares and some creepy imagery.
The idea feels like Resident Evil meets I Am Legend.
I hope we see more from Alan Edwardes and this universe, though for right now this feels like more of a proof of concept than anything

What can I say? You can do a whole lot worse for 2.99.
You solve some brain teasing puzzles that appear deceptively simple thanks to the games visual design
you do that 600+ puzzles and that's about it.
It's a nice relaxing game to unwind with definitely only meant to be played in short bursts.
I caved and used the Steam Achievement Manager to get those snazzy letters for my profile, heh.

A cute lil platformer you can beat in a weekend
with a level editor included that's worth the 20 bucks alone I'd say, but Hot Lava has a couple more things to offer.

It's got a nice aesthetic to it, and with a landscape littered with overused 80's and 90's references I'd say this game partakes in that nostalgia tastefully, with completely original creations like the action figures you play as or the comic books you collect.

Courses are very well designed with multiple short cuts to go faster and beat the levels time thresholds for those extra stars or you could explore the levels slowly, picking up all manners of collectibles.
there's something for both play styles.

Though of you find the time thresholds to be generous, there's much more challenging community made levels that really put your speed to the test. Despite them lacking in visual appeal, the GAT HQ level being the one stand out exception out of the developer curated levels that are already part of the base game.

I liked it but it's kind of a one and done fore me, these so much stuff to unlock that doesn't really amount to much, so completion seems like a lot of effort for very little pay off.

Tunic is two different games.
On one hand it's a cute lil souls like with a fun aesthetic, awesome sound design, tough bosses, great environmental storytelling, and a very interesting method of progression. You collect pages of the game's instruction manual and most of it is written in this fictional language. However the manual breaks into perfect English on occasion to give you just enough information to nudge you in right direction. For a majority of the game the hints make sense and I feel smart for figuring it out without being explicitly told where to go and what to do.
with the exception of a few traversal upgrades you have most of your abilities from the very start of the game but this information is slowly fed to you by the manual pages in a way that, again, feels intuitive!
Until you get to the final boss... the last few manual pages inform you in increasingly cryptic ways on how to get the good ending. You are encouraged to take notes on puzzle solutions and take a crack at deciphering the fake language just to get some semblance of how to progress.
You get neck deep in this manual rabbit hole and it honestly feels like a completely different game, and it sucks because I want to solve the puzzles as intended, using nothing but the manual and my intuition, like I've done for the rest of the game. But attempting to navigate this this Zelda 1 homage without outside help brings the end game to a screeching halt.
So if brain teasing cryptic puzzles really tickle your fancy then well, you have about 6 hours of a souls like to get through just to get to them.
This gear shift to what feels like an entirely different genre is what holds back Tunic from being a masterpiece in my eyes.
Overall I loved the experience, Just be prepare to whip out a guide for some of the later game puzzles.
