I gotta say first off Crystal Dynamics was ahead of their time with this one, I mean almost a decade prior and this game looks *exactly* like those fake mobile game ads about surviving a zombie apocalypse or becoming a level 100 mob boss.
Joking aside this game was okay.
I hate to go into so little detail but this game just kind of does what it says on the tin.
LCGOL is a lower budget, isometric, dual stick, co-op shooter with a tomb raider skin on it.
Nothing more nothing less, there are a handful of puzzles to solve which integrate both player's abilities nicely and is probably the highlight of a co-op run, tho the game is beatable solo.
uhhhh yeah, you can do worse for 10 bucks. Tho if you do plan on doing co-op I do recommend doing it locally, the online servers aren't great, with a whole host of latency issues

Oddly enough I was looking forward to this one, the 8.5 IGN score the game touts on the store page really shouted at me, "This game is worth it we promise please try it!"
I always like finding diamonds in the ruff so that alone peaked my interest.
After playing it for the first time I gotta say I wasn't disappointed, what you see is what you get with Lara Croft GO, this isometric puzzle game isn't your typical tomb raider affair but these brain teasers are quite well designed.
The rules are established well, rarely was I ever confused as to how something worked, but on the occasion that I was stumped there is a very useful hint system that shows you how to beat a puzzle.
The hint system is so useful that I avoided it unless I really needed it.
For the price I'd say this is definitely worth it, I feel smarter after beating this one

I'm definitely leaning toward recommend this one but just get ready for some jank.
What we have here is a death by a thousand cuts situation, for every brilliant design choice there is an equal and opposite bad animation or frustrating glitch.
I marvel at the lovely touch that they made the health kit models in temple stages these chalices of magic liquid instead of conventional first aid kits, then I'm puzzled but the unfinished looking rock climbing animation.
Moments after appreciating the field assistance mechanic where you can opt in to get some genuinely helpful hints on what to do next, I get suck on a corner for seemingly no reason.
The satisfying story leads up to a climactic final battle! And the platforms you need to ride up during it jerk and jolt around, dropping you to your death.
It's frustrating because I want to call this one the best game in the entire franchises but the endless list of mild bugs stack up just enough to where I can't say that.
When is eidos gonna let their developers cook something to completion for once?

A remake of the first game with the legends treatment follows a pretty consistent pattern.
If I liked a level in the original game, I prefer how it's done there, but if I found it irritating, then I vastly prefer this version.
Overall tho it's just as fun and functional as Legend, with a few cracks in the seams near the end of the game with a select few ledges not being grabable and some frustrating instances with the new grappling hook wall run mechanics.
Other than that it's a pretty solid remake.

Playing this one illuminated something for me, the Core Design games started dipping in quality because instead of focusing on the strengths that came with the precision and consequences of the grid system formula, they wanted to be this game.
With all of the timed switches, vehicle sections, intense shootouts, exciting set pieces, more opportunities for Lara to interact and give her character moments.
Tomb Raider Legend has all of the systems fleshed out enough to make these aspects feel fun and intuitive to control.
It is lacking some of the identity of the better Core titles, and what the series could have ultimately been, but I can only cry over split milk for so long.
Besides, calling this a bad puzzle platformer would be like calling Dark Souls a bad pet simulator, that's really not what this is trying to be.
This ones a keeper but this port suffers from some graphical glitches and aiming sensitivity issues.
There are some fan patches that address these issues tho, so download that and you're all set to play one of the best games in the series.
It's nice and short to boot.

I haven't written reviews for the first 5 entries in the core design Tomb Raider series, since I have been emulating them, but I could quickly sum up my thoughts.
The steady decline in quality of this saga is one of the biggest tragedies in gaming to me.
The foundation of classic TR level design and movement system promises something great, a puzzle platformer rooted in consistency and precision.
Two kinds of jumps that move an exact number of tiles at a time, at their high points they are designed with these simple mechanics in mind, using your knowledge of the grid based design and movement system to challenge you.
But as you play them these high points get scarcer and scarcer, focus gets diverted into new mechanics that are not fleshed out to you, poor conveyance on puzzle solutions, and emphasis on combat sections that are more frustrating than anything.
The annual release schedule and insane crunch snuffed the opportunity for these games to truly grow into something timeless and exceptional, culminating in the sixth and final entry, you get a product that barely even functions.

Angel of Darkness is a tomb raider game on auto pilot.
The solution to puzzles is often the only thing that is intractable or gradable, there are almost no secrets to reward players going off the beaten path, in fact you'll find the locked door to some cut content more often than not.
Mechanics are introduced only to be useless in an hour or so.
Ambitious ideas like the new combat and dialogue systems feel unfinished and scaled back.
Underdeveloped characters getting significant screen time.
All I could think of was, this all could have been avoided if Eidos hadn't tried to get blood from a stone.
For the sixth entry in the series I should be playing the most polished and focused puzzle platformer ever made.
Instead we have a barely finished mess with no identity that just feels sad to play.

a short experimental split screen co-op cinematic game.
It's average for the most part with a few stand out moments, particularly the hospital escape scene and the two heart wrenching endings.
Perfect to beat in one session with a close friend, but it's also kind of a one and done

One of the best action RPG's of all time, period.
it's dripping with atmosphere, has great areas and boss fights, all wrapped up with a learning curve that is steep to be sure but so satisfying to master.
this game has so much going for it that it would be shorter to list the cons:
The Bed of Chaos is a horribly designed fight.
And invasion is nothing but an irritant, I prefer my PvP to be consensual thank you very much

Co-op in Sonic games is never all that great, but this lil experiment of a game seems to do a decent job of it comparatively. With the tag action system straight out of sonic advance 3, this game manages to cobble together a sense of teamwork between players that no other Sonic game really attempts.
If you and a buddy are interested I recommend trying it for that alone, when one of you isn't outrunning the other that is. Seriously surprised that the servers for this are still up and running.
