The first Tomb Raider games I've played were the "Survivor" games and I really liked them. I wanted to go back and play the previous trilogy of games after finishing Shadow. Upon starting this one for the first time, I missed all the improvements to the gameplay that were present in the newer games. The controls are probably better on PC with controller but I played this on Steamdeck, which is currently "Playable" but not optimized for it. For the most part, I managed to get through all combat sections just by holding down the "fire" trigger for the guns. Nothing really compelling to me about that. There's other options for the combat, but not really necessary since you have dual pistols that have unlimited ammo and then a better gun with ammo that drops all the time. Some of the boss fights were better though. Some of them included puzzles within the fight too, which was nice. A few of the stage puzzles are clear, but there were others that took took a while to figure out.
Overall, I'd say this was at best OK, but I don't think I have any interest in playing it again. Playing this today, I don't think this one has aged all that well as a complete package. I'm curious if the next 2 games improve on the issues I had with this one. There's some nice things here, but there are other things about this game that I wondered if I was just forcing myself to play until I made it to the end. For this game, I'd prefer not to choose "yes" or "no" in terms of recommending, but since I have to to post a review, I think I lean more towards "no" if you're coming to this having only played the Survivor games before this. Beautiful old graphics. It has a completely different, unique flair.

Well written dialogues and entertaining gameplay, tricky puzzles.

The controls can be a bit fiddly, but it's playable!

Tomb Raider: Legend is a wonderful game.
