This is a phantastic modern incarnation of a traditional Roguelike. It plays so well with a controller, which is a refreshing way to play such a game from a comfortable position further away from the screen. The size of the HUD elements and the adjustable map zoom accomodate this well. The aesthetics of the interface hits all the the right tastebuds for me, as a kid from of the 80's and 90's. I remember curved CRT screens and that very font from old textfiles. If you like old-school Quake and Doom, you will appreciate some content referencing those games, such as keycards, armor and health orbs. The gameplay heavily emphasizes tactics and positioning. The mechanic of cover is most important. Bits of lore is fed to the player via e-mail messages exchanged between staff members of the bases on Jupiter's moons. However the content of these messages are so vague, that I mostly can't make out much sense about what they are trying to tell me. From what I understand, they hint at good loot that can be found in branches, which can enable advanced players to aim for a certain exploration path and character build. The turn based nature allows for relaxing and cautious play. The animation of the turns is so fluid, allowing for faster play in less dangerous situations. You can get into a real rush of killing sprees! Gibbing the enemies feels so satisfying, as well as all the weapon sounds of shooting and reloading. The game is brutally hard, but the typical audience expects that and I like a real challenge. It took me over 30 hours to get my first win on Easy difficulty, even though I have many years of experience with Roguelikes. The game has no metaprogression system unlike several modern Roguelikes, but this adheres more to a traditional Roguelike. The graphics and the lighting are pure eyecandy with highest quality settings on a 4K monitor. Tough I am a passionate Metalhead, I play with the music muted, because the metal soundtrack is too repetitive and generic for my taste. Instead I use quiet playback of some Dark Ambient from outside the game, as this enables me to better hear the enemy noises and I also find it more atmospheric like that. The official Discord community is very friendly and helpful.

One of the most boring and slow games I've ever played with horrible controls.

I spent 4,62 € for this game on sale including the DLC, out of pure curiosity to find out what all the hype and fuss is about, and... OH BOY! I have never become so quickly hooked to such a simple, primitive, crude, mindless, stupifying, weird and hilarious little game before! This is perfect for a quick fix of dopamine and to unwind after a stressful day at work. These endless waves of bizzare enemies, the mesmerizing patterns of projectiles spiraling outwards and scooping up the masses of crystals that gravitate towards the character emitting that satisfying crystal sound is all oddly relaxing, hypnotizing and so much fun!

I find it interesting that the Developer Luca Galante -- according to Wikipedia -- applied visual effects from his programming experience for casino gambling machines in this game, such as for the elongated treasure chest opening animation. I have never been gambling in my life, but from playing Vampire Survivors I now have some understanding of how psychological reward effects, in particular flashy slot machines, can have on the human brain. But for sure it's better to be addicted to Vampire Survivors than gambling. However, I believe I will move on from this game soon enough, as it lacks depth, immersion and complexity for long term appeal.

This game has en enormous tactical depth stemming from surprisingly simple mechanics! The variety of the cute little mech's abilities is astonishing. The UI is super well designed, clean and clear in showing all relevant detail in dialogues and on the map. I especially like the various features to increase UI and font size. Playing this game is very relaxing due to it's turn based nature and the fact that it can be controlled entirely using the mouse in one hand (and holding a cold beer in the other). Though playing with fully configurable hotkeys or a controller also works very well. Collecting the interestingly categorized achievements is especially fun, aided by ingame progress tracking and even necessary to unlock new squads. The satisfaction obtained from pulling off a genius combo that finishes multiple enemies at once keeps feeding the playing loop!

As a completionist, I got obsessed to collect all achievements for this game. It turned out to be a long grinding journey of lovehate. I was so proud to have finally made it and thought the effort was well worth it. The controls and physics are absolute perfection in platformers! The artstyle is one of a kind, and reminds me of my Betty-Boop and Felix the Cat VHS tapes from childhood. Yes, I'm that old.... but I ♥♥♥♥♥ beat Cuphead on EXPERT!

This game hits my taste for retro arcade vibes in a modern outfit, and cyan-magenta-drenched 80s art style. Excellent choice for a few quick action-packed runs in between!

Most fascinating and amazing game ever made. Has the longest lasting appeal, highest replayability, quality, complexity, immersion and addictiveness I've ever known in decades of gaming experience. The clean, clear, functional and no-frills GUI, high-res icons and animated sprites are pure 2D eyecandy. The independant developers did everything right: The shaping, ripening, polishing and maintenance of the game, listening to and respecting their player community, the traditional, no-bs business model, as well as independently hosting their own ad-free wiki, forum and mod portal. The several hundred weekly "Friday Facts" newsletters have been informative to follow over the years. Factorio is my alltime favourite computer game!

Very good atmospheric and immersive game, but very difficult with a steep learning curve. So much punishment, fear, torture, pain, suffering, misery and DEATH! If you dig that, try it. But please buy directly from developer's website.

20 hrs and 115 deaths into the game and I am still not lucky enough to find wands or spells strong enough to let me survive past the entrance areas of Hiisi Base or Fungal Cavern. These are early-ish levels, can you imagine!? This game is so stingy! Rarely manage to collect enough gold to actually buy a more expensive wand that stands out by price and suggests at me that wand might be powerful. Also finding plenty of potions and no clue how they could help me get more powerful. The measly +25 HP gained per level completed is a joke. It does not nearly keep up with the extremly rapidly increasing damage suffered.

I wanted to like this game, it was intriguing, but feeling stuck in early-game with no sense of progress after 20 hrs is not for me.

Edit: It's gud. Now I like.
