Story

Story itself is fairly simple and shallow; i.e. go save your brother in the Federal Buro of Control which happens to be infested by a paranatural entity . But in doing so, you uncover a great, wondrous and mythical world that is fun to dive into and explore. The supernatural is used well to make the game and its progression unpredictable. That, combined with stunning visuals keeps the player invested throughout. The DLC also helps a lot in expanding the world.

Visuals

Graphics

No complaints. Game looks great throughout. Facial expressions and motions are well captured.

Level Design

It's great. It's often an office but has many more areas all of which are a joy to explore and big in size. Yes, the map is not great but only in the sense that you get no freebies. You have no quest markers so you have to learn to use it. But, there's also signs in the game itself to help you navigate. One can argue that this enhances the experience as it forces you to actually examine the map and your in-game surroundings instead of turning your character towards a marker and walk straight.

Combat

In all honesty, it's a mixed bag for me.

The combat is satisfying because it's visually cool. The launch ability especially is so much fun to use. It's no everyday you can launch office furniture and more at your enemies. Or heck, launch the enemies themselves. You can also throw their grenades back at them.

The energy management forces you to use your gun which comes in several forms, each with up to three mods. Then, the reload time of your gun makes you switch back to your energy-based abilities, creating a fairly nice loop between the two.

However, to me, the guns were quite underwhelming. Some felt useless or too similar in function which led to me just using two forms for most of the playthrough. The mods can be crafted (random mod) but are mostly found as collectibles. There, too, I felt like most of them felt useless (including personal mods). Why use mods that save energy when I can just get a mod that gives me more energy?
Lastly, the guns were pretty much outdone by the launch ability. Launch does insane armor damage as well as health damage. Where only one gun does decent armor damage and the guns' health damage seems equal at best with the launch ability - though I admit that might also depend on your mods and skill upgrades.

Enemy variety was pretty bad. They all have guns, some have a launch ability, some shoot rockets or grenades and that's mostly it for the small fries. Some bigger mobs are more challenging but then for some reason almost one shot you, too. So the scaling seems just weird. If combat wasn't so much fun, it would feel repetitive way more quickly.

One nitpick is that some visual effects are overtuned, masking yourself, the enemies and pretty much everything. So you stumble helplessly around, hoping to restore visuals and then die to a random explosion / pit / melee dude.

While the launch ability is fun and the shield ability is cool, for a game where psychokinetic powers are at play, I was hoping for a bit more variety. Overall, I wish they had put some of the creativity that is found in the level designs and story into the combat.

As a side note: the controls are smooth and I never was annoyed at how it felt to play.

Summary

I had a fun playing this game and reading the exposition provided by the collectibles. Unfortunately, the story wasn't enough to get me very emotionally invested but the world left me curious for more.

Nonetheless, the game is memorable for its creativity both in visuals and world building.
Final words: game can be recommended and the Ashtray maze was freaking amazing.

This is an incredibly well made game. It has pretty much everything what the first game offered and more.
More ways to customise your playstyle (prayers, weapons, altar pieces). Controls are smooth and combat is fair.

Graphics are still just as solid and beautiful and the cutscenes are amazing.

I really really enjoyed the soundtrack. In more than one area would I stop for several minutes just to take in the music. Many of them made it into my playlists.

If one uses the map and the markers well, they should have little trouble of exploring the map and get most collectibles, or know where to go after unlocking a new skill to open previously locked pathways.

Some quests might need a guide but none are too tedious to complete.

Overall, I highly recommend this game if you enjoyed playing the prequel.

Game is freaking fantastic. Levels, enemies and characters designs are fantastic. The combat is flows like butter even though I'm crap at it (not used to the genre). Bayonetta is so much fun to follow round; cut scenes and cinematics have great voice acting (I'm playing it in Japanese) and gorgeous as well as humorous choreography at times. The graphics have aged very well imo.

Would recommend to anyone who's in the mood for a fun hack and slash with diverse weapons and moveset.

Few cons:

- Camera can be hard to handle, making it difficult to keep all enemies in sight.
- Had to set the game into compatibility mode at chapter 7 because the game would keep crashing.

Me problems:
- I find it difficult to get good at the combat... Maybe should have played on easy mode ^^''
- Not sure if I missed something but I can't use accessories even when at max magic and using the buttons given in the description (e.g. for Sergey's lovers). And yes, I equipped it.

Overall: good.

Graphics: very nice

Camera: a tad clanky in close spaces sometimes

Story: very good although with a (to me) somewhat unsatisfying ending

Maps: some better than others, at times a bit too convoluted imo, especially with no fast travel. Gave me tomb raider vibes in terms of movement options, scenery and so on.

Combat: overall fluid but changing target mid-combat was at times annoying (using xbox controller).
Skilltree / moveset is kept fairly simple with just enough variety to not make it too boring. Personally would have liked a few more force moves though.

Absolutely fantastic.

You play as a Ninja, following orders from your clan, infiltrating buildings, sewers and other locations, sneaking past dozens of guards or knocking them out. You have a variety of tools at your disposal, be it to distract the guards, kill them or lure them to a trap you setup previously.

More skills and upgrades can be unlocked by gathering points and / or completing optional requirements on how to complete certain sections. You can retry levels at any time and use your new unlocked abilities which adds a lot of replay value. There's also different suits that impose different restrictions and force you to play in unexplored ways; thus further adding to replay value.

There's not a ton of levels, just the right amount in my opinion. They increase difficulty at a good pace and new mechanics are also explained in a "show don't tell" manner. There's also a nice amount of enemy variety as you progress through the game, keeping things interesting. There's a well spaced amount of checkpoints to restart from which is welcome especially when attempting those optional missions.
New Game+ is also a thing, for those that enjoy an extra challenge.

The artwork is reminiscent of old cartoon network, specifically Samurai Jack (especially the cutscenes).
It might not be for everyone - I personally enjoyed it - but it meshes well for this kind of game.
Level design was good overall, interactive objects are clearly recognisable and there's plenty of ways to "solve" a level. In that regard, it reminded me a lot of Dishonored.

I wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone that wants to try their hands at a stealth game, whether they're new to the genre or an expert. The developers knew what a stealth game should be like and they managed to do it masterfully.

Ever wanted to feel like a martial arts master without lifting a finger? Well, you're out of luck, because lifting a finger is literally the only thing you have to do in this game and it's awesome. Control your stick man to beat other stick man using just two buttons, a ton of skills, great reflexes while listening to music that makes your heart pound out of your chest.

You got campaign, survival and leaderboards. What else do you want? Jump in and fight.

The world looks beautiful and the level design is immersive and has very thrilling segments. The story is good and I can empathise with the characters. Gameplay is smooth and the many skills allow for different kinds of play styles. Definitely having a good time with it.

Celeste is a beautiful game that perfectly increases its difficulty and manages to introduce new mechanics to keep the player interested. The story is captivating from the very beginning and the art fits well, being simple and to the point. I recommend it to everyone who wants to play a good, challenging platformer. Deserves much much more attention.

Also, death counter, collectibles, timer for speedruns. Make it as challenging as you want :)
