This game is beautiful. At the time of writing this I'm only about 6 and a half hours deep into it but I'm already addicted. An open ended retro roguelike RPG. And I'm sure you can see from the featured screenshots and video preview that I'm not lying when I say retro. It harkens back to the early days of RPGS, bringing the charm of the simple graphics of old light tube monitors and gameplay functionality of mouseless computers. Despite emulating such simple and limited technology, the game is beautiful in its own right. You end up filling in the gaps between pixels with your imagination. You get invested in the story and your character until their bitter end, where you take a brief respite from your immersion before rolling a new character and getting right back into it. You start telling your own story as your little person-shaped pile of pixels trudges through every cave and dungeon, bringing your own depth into this wonderful world that seems to be in some strange limbo between fantasy and sci fi, between apocalyptic and thriving, between brutal and beautiful. Caves of Qud is a diamond in the rough, a modern masterpiece wearing the threadbare graphics passed down from consoles of olden days like the Commodore 64. So pick it up. Spend ten or so dollars so you can brave the unforgiving world of Qud, where your currency doubles as your sustenance, and everything has a complex, interwoven story with everything else. Where your triumphs are rewarded and your mistakes are punished harshly. Where you can tell the story you want to hear. As many times as you want.

tl;dr: this game is beautiful, and worth so much more than you pay for.
