I underestimated this title. When I initially tried this game I started it in Survival mode, I am inexperienced in these crafting / survival games. Just not knowing if a species was friend or foe left me scared to play it for more than half an hour.
Fast forward to the last month and I've put in close to 170 hours in freedom mode (much the same as survival, but without the requirement to deal with hunger and thirst).
This game is a gem, wish I'd played it sooner.
The story has you unexpectedly crash on an alien planet, in a twist to most survival games there isn't allot of walking. There is allot of swimming and driving.
Follow the story-line to visit other rescue pods and gather further information about what happened.
you'll gain crafting blueprints as you proceed through crash sites and gather materials to assist you in your survival I used https://subnauticamap.io/ for it's maps of the layers. You can bring up your world position by pressing F1. This is handy for navigating the lower levels once you have crafted vehicles capable of the lower depths

Subnautica Below Zero was just released last week, I am looking forward to adding the next chapter to my library and beginning a new journey with new dangers.
