So I know anime isn't really your thing, but I just remembered one Kavan watched a while ago. It's a pretty good one, actually. It's all those crazy mecha fights and stuff, sometimes, but at least their mechs are logical about it. Anyway, rambling. It's called Code Geass, has a pretty good storyline to it. I don't think it has an English dub, but the subtitles are usually done well enough that you don't need to worry too much. I'll link you to the first episode at the site me and Kav watch stuff from, and you can watch it if you want. If you do, you'll see three video screens, the top one is high quality, bottom is low quality but easier on broadband. Don't know how much you need to worry about that, but here it is.
