I feel.... conflicted about this game. I'm marking it as a positive review because I've already played for 10 hours and will continue to play, but it is severely lacking in some very simple ways that I am hoping the developer will update soon. In it's current state it is not worth the full price, in my opinion.

Firstly, I have currently only played this game in single player against the AI; this is mainly because I am loathe to make yet another random account, especially as it wasn't a simple process. I started and very quickly stopped. I hope they will introduce a local multiplayer mode, plus being able to play with your steam friends just through your steam account.

The graphics are mostly excellent, but it can be hard to make out when trains have been placed as the colours don't differentiate easily and can blend in with the available tracks.

This game is very simple, and is perfect as a casual game to have something to do with my hands whilst I am watching TV, but I recommend going into this game with fairly low expectations to be honest. I am hoping that as new packs are released, that some updates to the main game might come along too. It's a shame that a game that feels so incomplete was released in this state, especially at this price, but there is still the opportunity for it to be made worth it.

I don't usually review games, and certainly not like this, but this game is special and deserves it.

I was sold on this game at "management simulator about death" and it exceeded expectations. This game forces you to chill the ♥♥♥♥ out, and I swear to god it helped me out of my most recent major anxiety spiral. A key game feature is that you get/have to hug people! It's also a really good way of dealing with grief - basically this whole thing is the closest thing to therapy I have ever done that's not actual therapy.

The main criticism the game seems to have is that its grind-y, but that's kind of the whole point?? It's about the process - very much a "journey not the destination" situation. The game talks you through what to do and then just leaves you to it to figure out the progression, but there is no failing! No repeating the same thing over and over until you press the buttons perfectly and get to progress! All gameplay is moving the story forward, even if you don't play the way the game hopes you will. For example, if you mistime a click, you just get slightly less of whatever resource you were creating, or if you accidentally cancel crafting half way through, you get the raw materials back instead of losing them. There is literally nothing to stress about in the whole game, though this doesn't mean it doesn't have its challenges - there are bits of this game that take skill, it's just that the stakes are so low they're practically non-existent.

My only criticism is that in general the characters you meet get less and less likeable - the game desperately needs another couple of faves in the late game. I imagine plying this before the dlc this wouldn't have been noticeable, but the characters that are new I think unbalance it a bit. Not bad enough for me to not sing this game's praises, but something that I hope might get an update at some point.
