I'm not a well versed reviewer, but with how often I play the game I thought I should at least say something about it. I love it but I'm a MK Stan, so take that as you will. I find the animations very neat, the best I've seen among NRS games. I think they're a big highlight for the game. Sound design is pretty good. Nothing like mind-blowing, but I think it does the job well. Some of the changes made overtime helped make the game feel more lively as well. Allowing custom variations for competitive really help make every fight feel more entertaining and a little more personal. I think the roster is a huge plus as well. There's a good mix of play styles available for all kinds of players. Also, while I know the idea of guest stars is really mixed among the community; I believe that they chose characters that are a pretty good fit. I personally think every character (Base game or dlc included) are really fun and unique. For the last positive, I enjoy the new meter this time around. Unlike prior NRS titles, this game has a total of four bars. Two offensive bars and two defensive. This is just how I feel cause it makes the game a little easier for new players. Instead of choosing when to use your bar for a defense or offense tool, you get to have both options available at any given time. Now for the negatives. I personally don't like the writing in the main story. I never really did like story mode in most NRS games just because its kinda loose. It's probably written that way to make it more seamless to go from conflict to a fight, but that's my opinion. The writing for characters before a fight and character quotes are entertaining though. Another odd thing I hate about the game is that there is no Hit Stick functionality for the fights that allow the use of assist items. It personally doesn't affect me as I play with a controller mainly, but I have a couple friends who brought this up to me and I wholeheartedly agree with them. It's pretty dumb. Now for the last thing I'll bring up, micro-transactions. While I don't believe that the practice in of itself is damaging, I will say that the way it's implemented in MK 11 is pretty greedy. The good thing is that these are only cosmetic items (Excluding the fact that Shao Khan is a pre-order character, so you have to buy him.) so it's not a huge issue. It's rather annoying though to have the news pop up in game every time you launch it. Steam shows everyone who is planning to hit play on the game the recent additions added in the library section. So why the ♥♥♥♥ do they have to flash every DLC and skin pack I can buy? Oh ♥♥♥♥ I forgot one other positive! Fatalities, Brutalities, and Friendships are all entertaining and animated very well.
