Squad is not a spiritual successor to Battlefield 2. It is an entirely new game in its own right with a complex history of development and it deserves your time and attention. Squad will stand as an example for what modding communities can achieve. Squad still offers an incomparable experience, all these years after its alpha release. No other game captures the potential of these large battlefields today. As a bonus, Squad has one of the best communities in tactical games period.

However, Squad is far from perfect. It is markedly lacking features and core gameplay innovations the game desperately needs. With many of us playing the game and thirsting for content, the lack of diverse gamemodes seems unnacceptable. Again, the community commitment keeps this game alive in this regard. We have created our own fictions in this game to compensate for the distinct lack of vision and narrative which plagues the game.

We have realistic maps, vehicles and period correct forces. Why do we not even have a simple story such as those provided by the loading screens of games such as Battlefield 2? Our assignments are nondescript and often lack agency.
Until the next best large scale tactical FPS comes to be, Squad is the game you should play.
