Haha soap go brrrr.

Solid game with great atmosphere. Soundtrack is top tier. Offers a good degree of challenge on higher difficulties, and has some neat enemy designs. It has all the '90s touches you could hope for: centred viewmodels, lots of secrets, and enemies you have to shoot until they die. The weapons feel good to use and they all have their uses, which is great.

I feel that sometimes the levels themselves feel a bit short, but there's secret hunting, some intense fighting, and generous episode lengths to more than offset this.

Doom Eternal has ruined video games for me. I do not know how to fill the void its campaign has left in my life, and I do not think there is anything in existence capable of giving me anything like the same high-octane hit of rip and tear.

Doom Eternal is extremely challenging on higher difficulties and demands a lot of resource management and fluidity in combat; you will die if you disregard any part of the combat loop for too long. However, it feels great when you lock down the combat loop and defeat the demons as intended, and you will nearly always understand why you died and know what to avoid doing next time. It's not your run-of-the-mill casual shooter experience, at all.

The balancing is nearly perfect; there are some weapon mods, runes, and suit upgrades that are less useful than others, but everything still has a use, and perfect balance is a difficult feat. Fighting some of the demons can be frustrating at times, but again, once you understand what to do it's very rewarding to get the kill.

I have yet to try battlemode, but the campaign is well worth completing. The boss battles are well-executed; I know there are many games in which the final boss is a bit of a joke, but I don't think that's the case with Doom Eternal. The lore is also completely bonkers, but in an entertaining way that answers a lot of questions about the Doom Slayer, whilst being quite funny in places.

I hope there will be a sequel.

Rip and Tear! DOOM is probably the best game to come out of 2016. it maintains a good balance of the classic fast-paced gameplay and secret hunting, and more modern things such as collecting small children's toys, beating challenges and getting weapon mods. The glory kills are great, the guns are great, the enemies are varied and the plot doesn't matter. Doomguy is extremely angry at everything, which is perfect. Well done id for basically updating what made the original Doom games great whilst adding in just the right amount of modernity. I highly recommend getting this game even if it's not on sale just for the campaign alone, because it is as close to perfect as a shooter can possibly come.
