I've paid for what is possibly the best expansion to this game, The Witch Queen. From the horror stories I've read and watched videos for about this game's expansions and monetization, this is the best it will ever get.
Parts of the game from its strengths to its weaknesses:
Environment art design
Sound design
Music
Gameplay
Campaign
Story
The environments tell a story of its own solely based on how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good they look.
Sound design is stellar, the guns sound punchy and the soundscape is vast. Music is orchestral, and some scores bleed into each other, aside from a few scores.
The campaign flowed well on the first play through, though some missions had me question why I was visiting the same locations over and over again. Felt repetitive.
The story itself required a 10 hour lore video to explain what exactly was going on, and its a detriment to how I feel about this game in general. The expansion's plot was easy to follow, but extra details required to be "in the know" and $300 richer a few years ago to get the entire package. And it is especially daunting to know that what you paid for can be taken away and stuffed into some "vault" later down the line. Money literally stolen.
