Incredibly fun roguelike, the main mechanics are a little wonky to learn at first but it manages to flow together wonderfully with the chaotic situations this game creates thanks to its diverse enemies, items, and most importantly; weapons. A real blast to get absolutely rekt in.

Obligatory 'Hey Hey people'

As fun as this game can be, there is one thing i'm pretty sure anyone who has played this game can agree with,
Luck plays a massive role in this game , and 9 times of out 10, Luck likes to work against you and shove it up your ass. Don't get me wrong though, skill is another factor in this game, though generally luck seems to overshadow skill.

Which can be a problem if you have a problem with luck based things, However in some cases this luck can be averted in certain scenarios if you have something right, like a certain crew member or weapon.
...Which sometimes getting that certain thing is luck dependent as well.
Here is an example of something luck dependent:

In your travels, chances are you'll find a burning space station, and you are given up to four options.
Option 1, Dock in the station. This never played well for me so i don't know what good happens, instead the stations blows up and i take damage to my precious hull.
Option 2, Send a crew member in. Literally a flip of the coin. Either your member manages to save some people in the station, or the crew member dies as well.
Option 3, Possibly the sensible thing to do depending how well off you are: Ignore the station and continue on with your journey.
Option 4, You need a Rockman in your crew for this option (Rockmen are slow, beefy guys made of stone like stuff, and are immune to fire damage), this option allows you to send in a Rockman in the station, who proceeds to barge in and save the day...usually. Even if he cant save anyone, at least he wont die.

So basically, if you don't mind luck in your games, Go and get this game, and prepare to start hating luck and everything else related to it.

Early Access Review
Holy Crap in a basket this game so far has been one hell of a time.
I learned about this game when i watched a vinesauce stream of this game, and so i tried the demo, and found after picking up the controls, the game was very fun. But during my time in the demo and for a short while recently after i finally bought this wonderful game, there was one thing that seemed to be constant:
Nothing happened.
All i did was fly around a planet, looking for upgrades and more things to find about the lore of this game to keep myself intriguiged.
Then I found a reason to truly enjoy this game.
This was what happened that made me love this game not long ago before posting this review

---

Doing buisness as usual, looking around for upgrades and such, just trying to find the indicator to appear to bring me in so i can dock and pick it up.
Finally, i see something and fly over to it and try to dock.
Miserably fail, and my ship takes critical damage because it hit the ground too hard, leaving it with under 20% hull integrity, with a fire starting.
Quickly, I land the ship, grab the fire extinguisher and take care of the fire.
Something wasn't right though, the ship wasn't repairing itself.
Curious, i make my way back to the captain's chair to pilot the ship.
Right before i start to pilot, a Red warning began to flash infront of me: "WARNING: MISSILE LOCK"
Oh ♥♥♥♥.
Panicking like ♥♥♥♥ now, and boosting away as quickly as possible, and then turning around to see what I'm up against.
Four enemy ships, the first time ive been up against more than 1.
Under 20% health, outnumbered, and most likely outgunned, Chances were most likely not in my favor.
Still, i give it my best shot, boosting back towards one enemy ship, slowing down before blasting it to pieces, and then boosting off as another missile lock appears.
As i repeat the same process with each ship, in the end I emerged victorious, and quite proud with myself, with four burning ships litter the ground.
Time to see what was in store for me.
As it turns out, one of the things i was trying to pick up before i was rudely interrupted, was the upgrade i was looking for, a heating upgrade so i could go explore the ice planet. Exactly what i needed to progress.

Again, for a time when i reach the ice planet there was period of time where not much happened.
Found three areas with data sticks that uncover more of the backstory, but only signals of enemies that were too far out.
Then, my opportunity comes, after hunting down another upgrade, i find a site where one might be located, as i approach, enemy contacts appear, a metric ♥♥♥♥ ton of ships converge ontop the site.
Its that time again.
Wanting another fight like i did not too long ago, i rush to the enemies, as i get close, they do exactly what I imagined they would; scatter and then swarm me.
Good thing the primary weapon in this game spreads like crazy. Even though there were much more ships than last time, I make short work of them while sustaining a fair amount of damage, as it appears they lacked the ability to use missiles, unlike the ones before. But even after winning the fight, the battle music is still playing and my hull isn't repairing, Naturally, i looked up to figure out why. A new group was coming in.
Knowing if i tried to fight them directly, i wouldn't stand a chance, i run off a little, and then come back to destroy a few of the ships, this hit and run tactic was for the most part, effective.
After a few, quick hit and runs I'm once again, victorous, and with a lot of burning ships on the frozen ground.
Once more, the music did not stop. Just a little above my position, a third group was coming in, thinking this would be the same as before, I made the same attempt to fight them, one thing was off however, these ships could use missiles. And one ship in particular looked different, and hell had a different trail than the other ships, the others had green trails, this one had a pink trail. It didn't take long to realize this ship could be special when i saw a barrage of missiles come flying at me, and then quickly kill me.
It was time to get creative, and then die. A lot.
And that I did.
After dying multiple times, i get the idea that if im always behind this special ship, it cant pummel me with its own missiles. So, i try it.
And it worked, after this thing was finally destroyed, I turned my attention to the other ships that were with it, and made short work of them.
The battle music finally ends, and my ships starts to repair.
It had finally ended.
And it was well worth it.

Thats pretty much my experience with this game so far, and has quickly become a space sim game i truly enjoy.
If you have the money to do so, i'd say go buy this game. If you dont, try the demo. You might just like it, and maybe you'll have a similar experience to what I had, and you'll know what im talking about.

I really want to say i like the game, i really do, of course im not going to.
But there are some things with this game that just really get on my nerves.
I like the combat of this game, feels like a awkward combination of Half-life and System shock 2's gunplay. Yet it feels right either way. Other than that thats where i begin to dislike the game.

For one, lets just start with dialog of the guards, Either every other guard is bipolar, or just cant make up their mnd because they go from being overly-cocky saying they'll kill you, then running away saying they surrender, and then go back to shooting you, saying more cocky things.
Then there is the voice acting, Hardly any of the voices in the game could be really considered good. Most are at most, annoying.
After that there are parts of the game that make little to no sense. Such as getting to use a Submarine for the first time; You were told to grab a submarine, Well, Its connected to a magnet on a ceiling, and there is a control room nearby. The door is locked, and the guy inside isnt doing anything. So you blow down the wall with a rocket launcher or some other explosive and press the button. The magnet lowers towards the water. and then out of nowhere, the Submarine explodes for little to no reason. As i found out, the Submarine was required, since you end up having to fight other submarines, which is kind of hard to do since not many weapons work underwater, and the torpedos they fire seek into you. So just to proceed, I was forced to cheat just to get on to the next area. Which brought me to a stealth section of the game.

Dont get me started on how stupid stealth sections are.

Edit: Some other things about this game i dont like i forgot to mention;
For one, the lack of autosaves. This really bugs me whenever i die and have to go back at least 10 minutes or more. It gets really tedious and frustrating at times. Especially during some fights. However once mercs are introduced, so is the Rail Driver; The other thing i hate with this game.
No seriously, ♥♥♥♥ that thing. Its a one hit kill. So many time i forget to save and im punished by being ripped a new one for going too fast or not focusing down the guy with the rail driver.

Don't get me wrong when im saying i dont recommend the game, I think its a very fun and addicting game with many upsides to it, However it is flawed in a few different ways:
-Pretty much no character development
-Combat that makes Morrowind's combat look realistic
-Story is paced way too fast
-Upgrades and weapons are stupidly linear
-Difficulty starts out brain-numbingly easy, gets stupidly hard, and then becomes stupidly easy again
-Mass Effect 3's Original ending was better than the ending to this game.
-Rather Repetive; Attack a colony on a barren planet a few times, then go attack a space station, go back to colony attacking and such.

Thats all i can think of thats flawed with this game, So my verdict; It isnt worth $20 (or whatever your currency is at full price). However the game is without a doubt worth it if its on sale for 50%-75% off. If it is, Give it a shot. You might just like it.

Sweet god this game is a load of challenge in a tiny package.
Risk of Rain has a lot going for it, Challenging, Looks pretty sweet, smooth controls, amazing music, and for once, a game that does permadeath and increasing difficulty correctly. In my opinion at least.

Ive known about this game before it came out when i was younger, And i still love the hell out of it today. Hands down one of my favorite games, But this little gem has its flaws and its perfections.

Spore, i can easily say is one of those games which you can let your imagination run wild, make whatever you like, And isnt too complex. So its easy to pick up and learn. Plus the main game, besides the Creature/Building/Vehicle creator, Is pretty fun too; evolving from a simple cell, into a complex creature, then into a tribe, into a nation, and lastly, into a vast empire in space. The replay value of this game can be high, Depends how much you liked the game.

Now as for its flaws... The game has its bug, sure all games have their bugs. But Spore has had some unusual ones. Before i had the game on steam, I owned up to three copies of spore. All stopped working after some time. Each one having a strange error prior to just dying, The last copy i had affected Space Stage, Every Empire, Planet, Solar System, and Galactic Formation were all named 'BADDATA'. Now does this affect the steam version of Spore? I dunno, hasnt happened yet and i dont see anyone else complaining about it. As for some problems that i see with Spore on steam; The game does crash often, and with almost all games that crash often, The game isnt good with autosaves, And if im correct only saves once you get to the next stage. So this can easily set you really far back in Space stage, Sometimes making it not too fun to play. Plus there is the price. The game is kinda dated, and has some problems, So it isnt worth the $20.

So if its on sale, Go buy this game, im sure it will be an experience.
Now if its not on sale, Get something that you may want instead, unless you really want Spore. then get Spore.
