My favorite game from my favorite developer. I am excited to see where Bungie takes their game now that they are free of Activision's influence. So far my experience with Shadowkeep is very promising!

Great community and great game to play with friends. Never a better time to try it than now with the base game being entirely F2P. I paid for every expansion along the way and am personally just glad that this will draw in new players to enjoy this great series.

UPDATE:

One year later and a rough year it was. Destiny had certainly seen better days than year 3, but overall it wasn't the worse state the game has seen in my opinion. Things have changed a lot with Beyond Light.

Bungie is overhauling a lot of the in game systems we have come to know and love/hate. Weapon sunsetting is a charged debate for returning players, but the effects shouldn't be felt by new players if you are just now taking interest. The new player experience is also miles better than it was previously. Actual explanations and opening up the world to new players as opposed to quest-fest last year.

NOTE: if you are a new player I do NOT recommend buying Forsaken or potentially even Shadowkeep at this state. The content is interesting and some of the activities are fun (especially Forsaken) however all the major loot sources are being "sunset" meaning the gear earned in anything short of raids will no longer be useful in new content in the coming year(s). This is in my opinion Bungie's biggest oversight in their changes. These content drops should be free or highly discounted if they are not going to continue to be useful. This may change in the future but for now I would recommend against.
