This game is a masochists absolute dream.

Rimworld involves you building a colony from a set of starting scenarios ranging from being a wealthy trader, to having no clothes on your back. Your colony will grow through a series of random events, all of which are dished out by "storytellers" Casandra: who ramps up the difficulty as the game goes on. Phoebe: Who hits you hard, but gives you plenty of time to recover and....Randy: who's just random.

You don't really directly control your colonists, unless you're under attack. Instead, you need to prioritise their day to day work, based on their abilities. Make sure you look after them too...anything from a tragic death of a loved one, to eating a meal without a table (can I get an F?) will affect your colonists mental health and might result in them having a breakdown that you're unable to control.

The endgame objective involves you finding/building a starship to escape the planet, although 200+ hours in and I've still never achieved it.

Where the game truly shines though, is the modding community. This turns Rimworld into a roleplayers dream game and is why I've never "completed" it. Want to try and build a walking dead style colony in a zombie apocalypse? Sure. Want to create a medieval town? Got you covered. Fancy building a cannibalistic, cthulu worshipping cult? Why not. There are hundreds of mods which you can tailor to your own unique experience.

I even managed to get my girlfriend into this game and she's clocked more hours than I have!

This is only really, a summary. I recommend checking out the letsplays, to see if this game for you, but I will highly recommend it. 10/10 - Would let my colony get massacred by a giant centipede again.
