This is a beautiful and moving piece of art in gaming. It really helped me process the death of my Dad, and it is the perfect length to go through the stages of grief without overstaying its welcome.

I played this game after sinking hundreds of hours into XCOM (the new ones, not the originals). I've heard Phoenix Point is much more like those original games, but I still really enjoyed it.

It is definitely more difficult than new XCOM, and has a steep learning curve. However, the aiming system is vast improvement, and being able to do your combat actions in any order gives way more flexibility. I found there were far less combat situations where you lose for reasons outside of your control (thank god for no 95% chance, point blank misses)- the main ones being when a new enemy or status effect is introduced and you get caught out by lack of knowledge.

The map is where the main difference comes in. It is definitely an adjustment to know you need to be acting at all times, and have events happening all over the world constantly. It is imperative to get multiple aircraft ASAP to stop yourself from falling behind. Also, make sure you research the humanity counter, you need to keep an eye on how quickly your population is dropping and open up new bases so you can see when colonies are being attacked. Food should be your most plentiful resource, trade it for everything else and get in the habit of doing so early and often.

I recommend not sabotaging if you can avoid it, I managed to be friends with everyone and it gave me access to all the tech/research and far more resources than I would otherwise have. I definitely recommend not having all the DLC on for a first playthrough. Kaos Engines definitely seems broken though- better vehicles and weapons with no ammo? I abused those, not going to lie.

If you get power through the learning curve, this is a lot of fun, good luck :)

If you liked Amalur when it was released 9 years ago then you will like it now- it's the same game just slightly prettier. If you haven't played it and you want an open world RPG with a million side quests and very enjoyable combat then I highly recommend.

The combat is by far the best part of the game, chakrams are my favourite weapons and I enjoy being able to change between warrior/mage/rogue at will and blend the 3. The story is fine, it's no Bioware game but it's there and it has a decent ending.

Blacksmithing completely ruins any item drops because except for the rare purple item everything you make is VASTLY superior. I've been using the same Chakrams for about 10 levels now and there is no point changing them because I kill everything except trolls in 2-3 hits (I'm on hard difficulty). Other than that I like the loot system, although I would like more variety in how everything looks.

I started out thinking this was just a 2D minecraft and didn't have high hopes for it. Boy was I wrong! This game stands on its own with thousands of items, a robust crafting system, classes, fun and tough boss fights and endless exploration.

It more than deserves the rating it has on steam and for how little it costs you should just buy it immediately!
