Incredibly fun game right off the bat.
I haven't tried co-op yet, so I can't comment on that portion.
There are a number of characters you can choose, each of them pretty unique in their play style and in varying degrees of difficulty. Difficulty in this case, at least from my understanding, pretty much means just getting used to how they function.
Most missions involve you killing baddies and rescuing hostages in a high octane manner.
Enemies differ in weapons, actions, and models. More gradually get added as you progress into the game. Let me tell you, boy it can get rough.
Killing enemies and rescuing hostages fills up your special meter. This lets you immediately deploy armor, health kits, extra lives, and your special ability. The ability can be a ai sniper, a hi-powered gun, etc.
Now anyways, beating missions isn't "too" difficult. Mileage may vary depending on which character you're playing and what gun you've decided on. Though in my experience, it seems like you can pretty much complete any level with whoever.
The only thing left to add is talking about achieving 3-stars on missions. In most cases, it's kind of a pain in the ass. Especially later on in the game. The criteria for getting a 3-star is no hostages die, and you don't respawn. Sounds easy enough, until you get towards the hostage execution arc of the game. I know everyone won't be trying to 3-star missions, so really no big deal. If you are with me in that boat, don't worry either, just have some patience and you'll get through it.
In closing, I highly recommend the game, even at full price.
