First few maps suck. I mean it, they are ass for beginners and ass for anyone with even the bare mininum small rhythmic bone in their body. After about 5 stages, the game starts to feel good, timings make more sense, the music is better, and I can recommend people to buy this if they like Rhythm games,

If you value your sanity, skip the tutorial and learn as you go,

Much like the first game, you wont find much of a challenge. Aside from a few or 1 or 2 fights.

Story keeps your interest as far as JRPGs go, its not the best. 1st game story was better imo. Hawaii is cool and fun, there are alot of mini games, content to do and keep your interest. So in terms of the $70 price tag, thats up to you. If you are somebody that enjoys doing everything, its worth it, if not, maybe wait for a sale.

Dungeon design is better than the 1st game, but it over uses that design, and it becomes very stale, very quick. You arnt incentivised to fight or explore the "dungeons" As the random loot is pretty worthless aside from chests which are at the end of floor,. they are randomly generated, which isnt a bad thing, but its just run 4 floors, fight a boss, rinse repeat, 6 times. 3 of these boss fights are pretty good and challenging.

The challenge of the game can be summed up as, once you know, its trivial. Sure you can over level( I did not, I got the intended challenge experience.) But the game does allow you to strategize for fights outside of combat as well as in. The problem is it makes it pretty obvious once you unlock two certain job classes, and abuse of a skill will make everything that much trivial.

They nerfed Joongi Han btw, Hitman class is kind of ass now.

Your game is still ♥♥♥♥ if you let people retreat after being snapped or snapping themselves.

Difficulty can be a ♥♥♥♥♥, and Im all for that.

11/10

Music is great, some tracks remind me of Chopin

Gameplay is incredibly fun, fights are math puzzles, especially boss fights, and there are lot of those.

Stories are pretty neat, charming characters.

So far the game is better than the first. A lot of stale kind of dungeon exploration has been gutted and replaced with what the first started with. Layers and layers of a Labyrinth, very fun to explore pitfalls, breaking walls.

This series is at its best when the Labyrinth feels like Campanula.

Characters are good too. Solid 10/10 gameplay so far.

Recommended for the game play, the story is a mess and starts off promising but enters tumblr fan fic levels of idiocy. If you value your time, do not play the post game, it is not challenging and the story is terrible, undermines everything the main story was about. It is quite frankly a joke.

Worse than Disgaea 3, in every way imaginable.

SX numbers in damage, like who can even comprehend this dumb crap.

The people that dropped this game had too big of a nostalgia for Banjo Kazooie and never touched Tooie. They also never played Kazooie nearly enough to have that big of a false nostalgia.

Yooka Laylee is its own game, its not Banjo Kazooie, its not Donkey Kong 64 or Tooie. It borrows elements from those games to make its own monster. While I enjoyed most levels, and their design. Theres like 2 I dont care for. Those are Moody and Glacier. Although Glacier has a neat 2D-3D dungeon, which I really enjoyed exploring.

Sometimes the puzzles can be too easy, but then again thats how Banjo Kazooie and Tooie were as well. At the end of the day, its a solid platformer game.

The characters are cute, there is some adult humor, its got something for everyone.

I write this review now, after my first playthrough, nearly finished 20 Pagies to go, I have played a lot of Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, a lot. Out of all my N64 games, I spent many days and years playing Tooie, just replaying it or trying to 100% it. I am not blinded by my Nostaglia, Yooka Laylee is good.

I hate this game. I really hate this game.

Yet I find myself playing it again. Spoilers WARNING-----------

I told myself to replay this game because my initial play-through was in hotel on my laptop, with low resolution. I remember the game being challenging for about 3 fights. Beat it on Universe mode and now that I'm on Chaos mode, things have felt easy up until, the Elda Village boss.

It is here the game decides to throw unfair difficulty at you, and because the skill tree system is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad, if you dont use your skill points accordingly, be prepared to grind more for skill points. But this is the innate problem, skill points come from levels, and when you just want to change up your strategy, you will over level making up for the skill points used on the wrong thing. There are in total 3 boss fights in this game, that come at you with mind numblingly stupid difficulty. They are the Eda Village, Sampati, and the Worms fight. The game on Chaos mode seems to be just as easy on Universe, until it decides, its actually on Chaos mode. For instance, the Demon dude fight after that on Letacias side is easy on Chaos, the guy does the same 4 moves, same slow pace. But the Village of Eda , the attack frequency of the cannons changes on other difficulties, and where they stop attacking for a few seconds on Universe, they don't stop attacking on Chaos.

I truly believe the only reason Im playing, is the item creation system and the fact the game is breakable through its item system like Star Ocean 3.

I still cant figure out why I hate this game, but enjoy playing it, is it the combat when it works? Is it the great music by Tri- Crescendo?
