Not a bad sci-fi fantasy game. Well conceived and quite good all-round. I enjoyed The Last Hope immensely more.

Beautiful visuals, music, voice acting etc.
Story has a grand sci-fi theme
fluid realtime combat

Negatives:
I thought the game loop was just not super engaging.
Most battles and fights in general through out the game were underwhelming did not make good use of all the available skills and mechanics.
Crafting was not that interesting
The mini-game seemed boring.

In the end I think it just needed a bigger budget, more polish, and fill out the extra-game systems (minigame and crafting) and it would have been a much more serious Action RPG.

If you are expecting the best JRPG ever, you will be disappointed. SO The Devine Force has a lot of problems, but most are mitigated for me personally since I am a big SO fan. I love this series.

Despite that, combat has some issues. The AP system is weaker than a more traditional MP system, and it feels more awkward than something like SO Last Hope, or even SO Integrity and Faithlessness. It's still plenty flashy and open to a lot of interesting combos with characters that play very different form one and other; something I value a great deal. Characters aren't super deep, but they are always interesting to some degree; another SO staple. I like most of the designs with characters like Nina being on the weaker side, although not terrible – just a little plain and fanservicey.

Another big problem is that the game does not make the most of it's big environments. They are usually pretty sparse, and there is little incentive to truly be in the world. D.U.M.A is great traverse the world with, but I can't help but feel as if the game would play much better with a smaller world focused on more abilities to travel and puzzle-solve with D.U.M.A instead. Some light platforming and puzzle-solving would go a long way, and I feel like that would be a lot better than these bigger, empty environments.

The game has a lot for flaws, but it also has a lot of that Star Ocean goodness that makes this my favorite JRPG series ever. I just like the vibe of SO, and I like the systems heavy menus, the way each character really, really plays different and the multiple options they have as well as their designs.

Fans of SO should have some fun with this one, but if you are new to SO or JRPGs this is one to avoid for now.

Final note, game plays fine with 60 fps. Just make sure you install those shaders, and if you update your GPU clear that cache, or reinstall the game. I got some really irritating stutters I was not having before that I think have to do with that. The game never ran amazing, but it did run fine until I updated drivers.

Hope this did well enough for more SO and remasters, like I said, massive fan of the series, for some insane reason xDD
