I can't In good concience recommend this game, it promotes the worst type of greed and horrible business practices I've ever seen. Valve and Bethesda have officially killed modding. Hope you're happy you greedy bastards.

Edit: Paid Modding removed, can now recommend this game.

Dont let the Saints Row 2 Purists ruin this for you. The game is amazingly fun and I feel like this is what the series was leading up to at some point. If you want a more serious experience, play GTA. If you want random fun, play this. Simple.

I want to preface this by saying that I'm not an experienced MMO player, nor am I a writer. So you may want to take my opinion with a grain of salt depending on what you're looking for in a review.

I had heard about Defiance near its release from a friend of mine, he told me the game wasn't worth my time. So I stuck to his advice and avoided the game. However some time before this game went Free to Play, I won it in a giveaway, so I tried it out. I was really wondering why he told me not to play it because I loved it! The game was genuinely fun to play, the graphics were quite good, the story was a bit lacking but people have varying opinions of how important that is in an MMO.

The map is pretty big, enough so that you need vehicles to get around it all. You get those quite soon into the story so trying to find them isn't a big deal. You can of course upgrade them.

The weapons are pretty varied, different weapon types, different types of lasting damage (Fire, acid, etc.), and there are modifications to each weapon. Visually however the weapons tend to get a bit repetitive, which you may see as a problem.

The enemies are also pretty varied, including different types of raiding parties, monsters, gangs, and pseudo-security firms, and generally you'll have to work at figuring out the best ways of killing off each type.

Now of course there are negatives to the game, as there is with any game. Mainly the problem is that quests and random missions tend to repeat themselves a lot, which threw me off on where exactly I was in the story(I'm not the most attentive fellow, so you may handle this better than me).

Secondly, the game doesn't feel that much like an MMO. This is mainly due to there not being enough players to pad out the large map. So generally you'll just be playing either on your own or with a friend or two, occasionally passing by another player, or seeing a bunch of players in an event.

And finally, tying into the second point. The chat; the chat in this game is pretty much dead. You would rarely see anyone actually talking in the chat unless it was for a gear trade.

TL;DR: The game is fun, lots of exciting stuff to do and lots of different types of enemies to kill. But don't go into the game if you're looking for a social experience.

Picture Minecraft. Now eliminate a dimension, and limit the world size. It's no longer "infinite," just pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥' big. Like, we're talking 15000 blocks wide, and 5000 deep. That's what you play on.
Now. Imagine you've got blocks for literally everything. Dirt, stone, those are staples. Add mud, ash, silt, sand... plus construction bricks. several colors and types of bricks and ores (which can be made into bricks), some of which reflect light or burn you when you touch them or spread corruption.
But what if you're not a builder? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are you in luck. Exploring? Set out in a direction and you'll pass through a (rather limited, but improving) selection of biomes, boasting unique terrains, resources and of course dangerous enemies. Jump into any surface ravine and you can stay underground for hours, digging deeper or mining for more ores or even just taking a swim in a dark underground lake.
Or maybe you're more combat oriented. Terraria has so many weapons that my friend and I combined have logged a good few(Not a lot of) hours and we still haven't ever collected them all- Oh, and the update that's coming out soon plans on adding more. There's 7 bosses, but the last three are only available after beating the four before, with another 5(?) on the way, and the combat system itself is a work of art. Pick from a huge arsenal of weaponry, and a smaller but still impressive array of armour and aesthetic touches before pitting yourself against other players or the world. Player battles are short, but intense. 2-D means less running, shifting the focus more to jumping, but it is beautifully executed... you've gotta see it for yourself.
Overall, if you like Minecraft, I would recommend it. You're limited a bit in terms of exploration, but it more than makes up for it with features, enemies, weapons, and the lack of FPS drops. For $10, it's a steal, but I've seen it dip as low as $3 during Steam sales.

TL;DR: 10/10 would bang
