I hate visual novels, always have, I've either received them as a joke gift, or bought them on special for a cheap laugh. They are nearly always crass and stupid and barely even worth wasting your time enduring.

However, Acting Lessons is a total curveball. The story and the character development is unreal. Honestly one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had from any media source. It's almost ruined PC gaming for me in general as nothing seems to hit the same highs and lows that you experience in this game.

And mind you, this is completely separate to the whole sex aspect of the game. While the porn parts are really well done, they aren't really overbearing with around the same kind of pacing you would find in most mainstream movies (albeit with more complete nudity) and are by far eclipsed by the story. In fact you could skip every sex scene to get back to the story and still be totally blown away.

The game really benefits from avoiding spoilers and hints and approaching the game realistically, making your own decisions for your first playthrough.
