GTA 5 (online) is a massive and expanding world where you start with nothing but some low level criminal contacts. Its up to you to either join heists and make money to fuel your vices, or buy property and lead your own crime operation.
From motorcycle clubs and small drug sales, to bunkers and military vehicles, to nightclubs and doomsday facilities, and with the addition of a vehicular demolition derby that feels like a evolved form of Twisted Metal, GTA Online has something for everyone.

However, players be warned. If you've never played a grand theft auto title there are some things to be weary of.
The game itself is full of homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, xenophobic, ableist, and anti-sexworker propaganda. This hate speech is found on most radio stations as well as shouted at the player character by pedestrians. In addition, the singleplayer campaign is not for the faint of heart. some of the violence is exceedingly vivid and while it never fully convinces the player that it is real, there is more than enough emotion in the character's faces to be emotionally distressing to assault survivors.

In all, I'd say, if you want a really fun and expansive open world game to play online with friends you know IRL, or a game where you can customize a car and race and buy better cars, or fly aircraft, or sell virtual drugs, or save the world, and can stomach the excessive fetish for cis, het, white, able, men and the degradation of people who don't fall into one of those categories, then pick it up if you can find it on sale.

I paid full price and every time I hear someone on the street yell hate speech I hate myself just a little bit for paying full price.
