So I’ve been playing Assetto Corsa for a while now, and honestly, I’ve gotta say, it’s probably one of the best games out there if you’re into drifting. Now, I’m no pro or anything, but the modding community is what really makes this game stand out especially if you're all about sliding sideways.

First off, the base game itself is pretty solid. The handling is realistic, and you really feel the weight of the cars as you throw them into corners. But I won’t lie, the drifting experience in the vanilla game isn’t that great. You only get a couple of cars that are “driftable” out of the box, and the tracks aren’t really set up for that kind of driving. That’s where the mods come in and completely change the game!

The modding scene for drifting in Assetto Corsa is insane. There are so many custom cars and tracks out there that are specifically made for drifting. People are constantly uploading new stuff to sites like RaceDepartment or AC Drifting Pro, and it feels like there’s always something fresh to try. The car mods range from simple 240SXs and AE86s to full-on Formula Drift machines. What’s crazy is the detail that goes into these mods like, the physics are fine-tuned so the cars actually feel right when you're sliding through corners. And the customization is nuts. You can get different tunes, body kits, wheels pretty much make your dream drift car.

Speaking of tracks, the drifting mods have some of the best custom tracks ever. There are so many to choose from, whether it’s iconic spots like Ebisu or custom drift playgrounds that modders made up. A lot of them have proper layouts for practice, tandems, or even full competitions. Some tracks even have special sections where you can just mess around with friends and try new lines, which is super fun if you're just chilling.

Online drifting is another story. The community is really active, and there are a ton of drift servers out there. You’ll find everything from casual practice rooms to full-on drift competitions. I’m not the best drifter out there (seriously, I spin out way too much), but people in these lobbies are generally cool and help you out if you’re struggling. There's a kind of unspoken rule where everybody respects each other's space, which is nice when you're trying to learn. And let’s be real, pulling off a clean tandem with someone is one of the best feelings in the game.

The game does have its downsides though. Setting up mods isn’t always the easiest thing if you’re new to it. You’ve got to make sure everything is in the right folder, and some mods require other files like specific tire models to work properly. It took me a while to get the hang of it, but once I figured it out, it was worth the hassle. Also, the game’s graphics are starting to show their age, especially compared to newer sims. But with the right mods, you can improve that too people have made texture packs and shaders that make the game look way better.

In the end, Assetto Corsa is like the ultimate sandbox for drifters, especially because of the modding community. If you're into drifting and don’t mind a bit of setup, this game can easily become your go-to for hours of sideways fun. The base game is good, but with the right mods, it becomes next level. Just be ready to spend some time digging through forums and download sites you’ll definitely get lost in all the awesome stuff the community has made.
