It's a bit janky in general, But it is one of the greatest contributions of video games to imaginative fiction. And though later sequels became slicker at shooting, they were also streamlined. Mass Effect is the inbetween step of old school RPG glory into newer, consolized action RP's that dominate the scene today. a great roll playing game, great writing, and atmosphere and exploration.
