Every single time they say they've updated this game, i never see an improvement.

Empire sprawl has always been a joke, so there's no reason not to just expand as much as your influence will let you. Now they've added building to give you more empire cap, which would be cool if the negatives were exponential, of which they are not.

AI fleets are always super stupid, and they haven't fixed it. Allied fleets can no longer be given objectives or targets to fight, so they'll just fly off even if you're double the enemy fleet strength together.

Federations are great if you never plan on going to war, tbh a stupid gimick in its application even if its a good one in its idea.

Influence costs for trade/research/defensive pacts is insanely steep for a resource you can do practically nothing to improve.

I've found that the only way i can possibly play this game is by myself with Xenophobe for the reduced influence costs, otherwise i'm too far behind the bots who just cheat for 50% of their resources. Speaking of AI, they have been given buffs on their planets aparently, however they haven't been given nerfs to their cheat, making them absolutely insane.

I'm not saying cheats are a bad way to program ai, cause i understand making ai realistic like players is an unreasonable demand, and i've played plenty of time on the Civ series to understand that its more of a benefit than a detriment, but i'm not even playing on a very high difficulty and they have double the fleet i could even imagine of having, making war almost a death sentence. Oh, just get an ally, you say? Yes let me have a guy with a fleet i can't control literally fly by the enemy fleet attacking my capitol even though my fleet is heading to intercept. Even after engaging there was no rerout...

Fix your game Paradox, like you've never done.

Over my 71 hours of playtime when writing this review, i have never actually gotten past the "tutorial island" in the game. I've actually just restarted play throughs roughly 6-7 times, and could never actually care for the game long enough to keep playing.
-Game penalises you for exploring in the method of hidden encounters, so you have to save often.
-Some fights are virtually unwinnable and you have no idea of knowing how it would go most of the time so save scumming is almost required.
-I find myself always taking the same perks. Sure some are interesting, but are mechanically weaker than others.
-The game consists of just chain stunning the main enemy and hoping the enemies don't do the same thing to your main DPS.
-Game is literally impossible to play without a mod that increases walk speed. it takes over a few minutes to walk from one end of town to the other... wtf?

All in all, game relates roughly to DnD: Solid base but fails spectacularily in the minor details, except here you don't have a DM to balance the game and make it more fun.

Game used to be good, but then it got overrun by devs who wanted to do what they wanted and didn't stop to think about their player base.

So, i really like this game, but i don't.
TL:DR Devs keep making changes that negatively impact the game.

Pros:

-Some of the best total war mechanics i've seen.
-Distinct and interesting factions (Unlike Attila with literally 3 factions that are just re-skinned)
-Incredibly fun leveling systems for lords
-Battles are interesting for the most part, except at the end of long campaigns in which you just try to auto resolve everything you can (because these campaigns are long)

Cons:

The end game is an absolute mess, with the AI getting literal hacks. I don't mean minor hacks like a small buff in economy to offset the AI being stupid, no, that's understandable. I mean a one province minor that i've taken their capitol from and they recently stone a random size 1 city can have enough money to upkeep 3 20 stacks... What? And they're all rank 7-9, yet they were built only a few turns ago...

Not to mention that later in the game, your stacks don't matter. It doesn't matter if you can actually beat the enemy because you can never fight due to the March and whack-a-mole end game 'content'. And they recently changed it that every army makes you gain a stacking 15% upkeep penalty so that you can never afford more than 4 stacks or so. I was making 20k a turn and couldn't afford more than 4 armies of base tier units... what? If i dare try to have an elite stack it just gets circles run around it.

Economy is really badly done. There's 3 buildings you need in every city or you fall flat on your face: Money, Public Order, and a Garrison building. If you don't have money, you can't have an army or build new buildings. If you don't have public order, you'll lose those settlements from rebellions. if you don't have a garrison building, a random stack of bretonian peasants will come and steal your stuff because they march away from your armies (See above).

And the main reason that made me rewrite my review is the constant Power creep. The Base rosters seem to have been purposefully kept small so that they can be released later as paid dlc, and practically everytime they release a new lord, its a contender for strongest one in the game.

Worst is that most of these problems weren't too bad on release. But instead, the devs thought it be a good idea to change all this up with minor changes that stack into an almost unplayable mess. There's a reason why few people actually finish the campaigns.

If you want to waste your money on a game that values glitches and cool OP dragons over actual good gameplay, then by all means, buy this game.

TL:DR 24 days to tame a beaver, 10 seconds to watch it get blown up by a rocket and or eaten by a dragon.

Oh my lord.
Notice: Some peole are spoiling the ending on here, don't look at any of them!

First of all, its free. What. This game is worth atleast 10$, if not 20$. The length and quality of this game is very high, even higher than some other games that you pay money for.

Sounds:
  • Music 10/10. This has an amazing soundtrack that i'll keep listening to even when not playing this game. It never gets in the way of being able to read, and is of high quality, sometimes too high. For the length of the game though, you may find it a tad repetivtive sometimes.
  • Sound FX 8/10. Jeebers some of these were hard to listen to the first time, sent chills up my back. There aren't many FXs, and are mildly repetitive, which is why -2, but they are on spot.

Art
  • Character art 8/10. Amazing and beautiful, with only a minor tinge of derpy art style, but mostly ever on Elizabeth's face. Have over 5 faces a person, with 2-3 poses per person, and sometimes alternate costumes, which is rather good for the VNs i've read (albeit not too many).
  • Backgrounds 7/10. Each backgrounds is of high quality like the characters, minus they re-use some a bit much. Sometimes the story describes an amazing background, but it doesn't show it on screen. Really all i can say about that.
  • FXs 8/10. Pretty creepy sometimes. Emphasises chills n stuff.

Characters
  • 9/10. Diverse and interesting characters. Some of them snarky enough to actually make me consider chainging my waifu, some of them nice enough to make me wonder if i'm actually into Tsunderes. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Elizabeth.

Story
  • Hot damn/10. The begging starts off super light hearted and slap stick. So many references all throughout that give a real chuckle, and first time reading it through i laughed at every scene. Then ♥♥♥♥ gets real. Like, Angel Beats real. If you can't stand crying or feeling like you're an Aztec sacrifice (getting your heart ripped out while its still beating, if you must know) then don't play this game. Actually, still do cause you need that stuff once in a while.
  • No spoliers on the ending, but read this if you wana kinda know the general ending: The ending feels unfinsihed. I think it is, but it the game developers don't seem to be working on it at the moment, instead for some Voice patch so i can laugh at how Yama bugs Elizabeth with his terrible English :3. But really, the "To be continued" screen feels too early...

Only thing that would make this game "better" would be hentai, but that's a thing of its own.

TL:DR
Overall: 9/10, amazing work put in by the developers for a F2P game, i would buy any game that these guys worked on if it simply said "By the same creators of Lucid9."
