Early Access Review
Cool so far. I put it straight to my ssd since I have heard it ran weird on hdds for some people. I do consider that to be weird, but I am hoping optimization comes with time and funding. That being said it ran pretty ok on startup, 2080super and was able to get a good 60 that maybe map depending seems stable to 55ish, and pretty much just set all my settings to medium 1080p. Better than I expected for how early in the build I knew this to be.
I do hope they rethink/rework the water mechanic. So far its not that punishing in terms of I got plenty of water just hardcore rat mode. That being said its a weird fomo mechanic that doesn't make sense for pve, this isnt EVE, rust, planetside 2,foxhole,dayz where timing effects other people, and irl time passage doesnt tie into the mechanics outside of this. Its just like a daily streak in fortnite but with a 'skill check' as well.
The core of the water concept is aweseome, manage greed vs survival. Too much greed and you lose it all, too much survival and sure your base is around for awhile, but you don't have good ♥♥♥♥ to show for it, balance both and you live a prosperous life. It would be cool if it was tied to the raiding/extracts mechanics like by making the different raid locations take different amounts of water for how long it would take your characters to travel there and back to the innards, maybe the duration of the raids has an effect on how quickly my water drains, I can imagine other cool interactions or ways of handling it with the possibility to freeze water or whatever, but the current implementation is more 'gotta do my dailies for my vbucks streak, or login so I can spin the gta5 wheel' coded than 'punished for my greed/mistakes/hubris/luck' hardcore.

This is peak as far as indie experiences go. You take a few great things and some passion and mash it up for a quick fun and unique experience. Physics game play is great and never gets old, and they push the simple mechanic of frying an egg on both sides without it falling out the pan or burning so far without changing your goal of cooking the food (cigarettes or ice acting as a timer, fish flopping around, trying to keep liquid in the pan while flipping foods and more) . The difficulty slider is perfection, it turns your pan into one without edges or with taller stock pot style edges. Ps1 graphics that are so vibey and timeless. A great little soundtrack that sets the mood for a surreal, dystopian, philosophical with sometimes insightful but mostly dreamlike and silly dialogue that you will read. There are so many little details that make this great, but one that stands out in its simplicity is that while you are reading the dialogue your camera angle may change with every line and it gives it an awesome cinematic feel. The game might even have something interesting to say, but to be honest I was too enraptured with cooking and just living in the moment while also being a bit too stoned to recall all the dialogue, but I definitely ponder about cooking an egg on top of mount everest. Is this game the absolute best bang for your buck? no its a quick one, but this is an indie experience very well worth your time and worth supporting. I challenge others to enjoy the dark souls like experience of cooking on hard mode, tough but was rewarding.

As a long time fan I am highly critical just because I love it so much and think it is so near perfection. It has its flaws but it also has some of the highest peaks of souls content. It sells itself for exactly what it is so I respect that a lot.
My complaints are minor but in a game where you likely spend hundreds of hours those problems end up persisting and felt grading at times. One of my least favorite things is how many repeat boss fights there are, some of which are fun returns similar to champion gundyr or miniboss type enemies getting repeated like titanite demons would, but there really is a quite bit too many repeat bosses and a lot of them feel low effort imo, but that should be expected to some degree with the scale of the game. I think horse combat is just bad and don't love the way torrent trivializes over world encounters and encourages really boring playstyles/bossfights.
The dlc pretty perfectly nails the balance of all its mechanics while also showing off the benefits of the open world format. My complaints are mostly null for the DLC outside of my personal distaste for the horse combat. If you are someone who doesn't love all the souls games or only loves a perfect linear experience you could skip this one but otherwise it is a great souls game, and a very solid open world game. Reminds me of witcher 3 in a way where its obviously the peak of the franchise but I think in 5 years we will think of a game with a lot of minor flaws and bloat like crafting systems, repeated bosses, a lock on feature that desperately needs a quality of life update so its not pressed up against walls or so zoomed in on the boss you cant see ♥♥♥♥. If my complaints resonate with you go for sekiro then souls 1 and 3 in whatever order you fancy, they are incredible games and elden ring will be around and go on sale and keep getting fun mods.

mh but more action because of wire bugs. Where as clutch claw just gave free knockdowns and took away from overall action and play kaiju riding is at least interactive and the wirebugs are sick af adding tons of customization and even more action and mobility for all weapons.

Fun game altho currently the servers are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with insane desync. Also if ur playing campaign that ♥♥♥♥ is fun af outside of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ super repetitive and boring boss fights that don't even work properly (animations glitch out constantly and cancel eachother). Also prepare for the good ol halo autosaves that just happen at random. Still fun, hope they fix some things tho.

Wow what a game. Left a lasting impact on my brain and the only reason I didn't binge it was because I needed time along the way to process it all and savor it. A game about loss, love, anxiety, forgiveness, and especially friendship. Great for Mother/Earthbound fans, also gives off somewhat similar vibes to over the garden wall and tatami galaxy as well. It should be obvious but this game is not all sunshine, its quite uncomfortable at times in what you have to see and do to get through it all but is also full of love and has a great ending. Solidly a top 10 game for me, one I will continue to think about for a long time and the ost will always tug on my heart strings.

Honestly I think the best game I've ever played. The all time #1 experience from a video game for me is Hyper Light Drifter. Few games come close to being able to immediately change the temperature of my body like this game does. The music alone is enough to give chills, but the story and atmosphere and the message moves the heart, and the gameplay is some of the best, super tight and incredibly rewarding combat with secrets aplenty to find and dope rewards and upgrades. This game really is a 10 in every single category save for a few 11/10s. Do yourself a favor and give it an hour or 2 of gameplay where u can still refund it. I bet you will keep it :)

Played it through a 2nd time on Hard which only 1.3% of did to completion. Seriously awesome game, fantastic soundtrack, amazing art and animations as well as great gameplay. Worth buying on multiple platforms for me and wish I had kick-started.
