This is how you do content for a community you respect. Bit of free stuff here and there mixed with solid \ substantial paid DLC's.

Please take over Ubisoft or EA.

Early Access Review
I think of Early Access as what I believe it was intended to be:
An investment into cool ideas that break the mould from large developer nonsense (Woke - Non innovative game play - Over hyped - Over priced - Half finished, and yet released as complete, BS).

Like the stock market, some investments will work out, some won't, and some will be bordering on scams.

Forever Winter needs work, but its core functions are taking shape nicely. Could be amazing if handled well by the Devs. Great art and atmosphere that make it unique against possible peers. I'm betting on these Devs making something fun for us and am investing in the team to complete the project.

Better than Tarkov. Support the devs and keep them baking.

Punishing at times, but very fun.

Some people bring up bugs in comments but I have yet to have any. Hardware luck?

Been playing the BF series since the first ever release in 2002. Bought every one and every major DLC that goes with them.

This may be the final installment I purchase of what has always been my favorite series of all time. Its all so tragic.

Overall Rating: 5.5\10

They continue to attempt to draw in COD players with flashy gimmicks and crappola no veteran of the series wants, all in order to increase sales... They should split the difference and make 2 separate games. A true BF series and a spin off COD competing game with the same engine.

Developers seem fixated on attempting to cater to anyone and everyone with a controller, money hungry for more sales instead of pleasing its core player base. I'm sure that will mean bigger bonuses for CEO's and extra points for shareholders in the short term, though meanwhile its loyal fan base is eroding, and the longevity of the franchise itself is suffering in turn.

I believe we are witnessing the slow demise of one of the most historic war games of all time.

Its already good and its still very early. High hopes. (Oct 2019)

UPDATE:

Fast forward to now, one year later...

Man these guys have delivered. This is now, officially, my favorite multiplayer WW2 fps game of all time.
I've been gaming since the late 90's as a kid, seen the good, and seen the bad.
HLL is simply better than the rest, it has everything.

Best part, I'm about to hit 1000hrs and its still not out of early access. Tons more content is to be added over the coming years.

Black Matter\Team 17, very well done. You get my commendation.

I want to recommend this game. Its truly in a class of its own and I've logged some serious hours.
Armchair generals dream. Its great.

BUT...............

This companies DLC policy is bordering on the extreme (overpricing for minimal content or skins).

Its really a put off for new players and if this continues, sadly I will not be purchasing games from these guys.

I want to.

BUT................

I just cant justify the logic behind releasing minor DLC's that should have been in the base game or added as free updates to maintain a loyal player base. Save the paid DLC for updates like the recent "Man The Guns" DLC (which was totally worth the money).

Too bad really. I know at least 3 players that have been scared off by the outrageous DLC prices\features.

For a game like this --- Fewer \ Bigger \ Cheaper DLC = More base games sold = More DLC sold becasuse base count is higher.

Come on guys its not that complex.

First off, I must say this:

The developers of this game are making it out of pure love. They want to play this game literally as much as their biggest fans. Here is why...

The concept for Squad and a good chunk of its development team comes directly from the best Battlefield 2 mod of all time, Project Reality.

You want epic new age conflict? Got it. You want to chase Charlie from your favourite surfing spot in Nam? Got it.
You want some WW2 action? Sh%# they got that too.

I still play today, even with the now antiquated graphics, over 8 years later it continues to be my favorite game of all time.

And in case you were wondering, "has this guy just been too stoned to notice other titles?" I have BF4. Played it, liked it, then came crawling back back a month later to old faithful. Good old "PR."

Thankfully I'm not the only one, because Project Reality, just like Squad is by NO means a single player game.
(Even if you play the game you might want to check out these awesome trailers)

(with a standalone PR download link)

I would gladly pay $300 with a smile on my face for a remake of PR. Probably more. Nope, definitely more.
For less than $50 I feel like I still owe Squads team something. It's criminal.

Squad looks to bring all of the best aspects of PR along with a ton of new features and a great new engine, creating what will more than likely be my next favourite game of all time. Knowing these guys, the updates, maps and new goodies will keep it top of my list for many, many years to come.

I know what the Devs dream is. Its not money (though they need and deserve to earn a decent living).
I know because its the same dream I've had myself for almost a decade now, a fully encompassing, meaningful wargame, built from the ground up. Where that sense of respect and consideration for the "soldier next to you" is very real. Because without their help, you may as well just find yourself a hole to crawl into.

Players, Its going to take a little while, but we'll get there....

Devs, I'll be your medic should you ever need one.
Whatever I can do to keep you in the fight.

Good luck and godspeed,

Bongfest out.
