Early Access Review
Amazing tactical turn based game for early access. I haven't played a ton yet, but what I have was a lot of fun!

This game is not fun. It's all about making your paper armoured knights being surrounded by ambushes that you cannot prevent and then they take a slight fleshwound and are out of commission for weeks. Missions range from very easy to a meat grinder not because the enemy uses better tactics or are stronger, just because of the RNG of when an additional stack activates next to a skirmish to turn a 4 vs 4 into 4 vs 10 at a whim. And the worst part is in between skirmishes you have to move your knights 1 action point at a time in step lock formation because if you don't whoever runs first gets pummeled by the next ambush and you do not get to position your other knights that technically have the exact same time to act (but the enemy does get to position all their units which is fun). It may be "realistic" that it works this way, but if I wanted realism that is boring I can go do the dishes or something.

Having fun with this one. The world and the characters are well fleshed out and the voice acting can be hilarious even if the quality is somewhat uneven.

The autobattler part is pretty straightforward but with the many different abilities and combinations of class and species it's a lot of fun to build every team to send away.

Only gripe I have so far is that the strength of periodic "invasion" battles seem totally outlandish compared to other battles, but maybe that's by design since you can use waves of your characters for attrition.

Fun light strategy game with a good story. I'm happy I bought it and played it through all the way! Minimal amount of grinding needed to complete on normal difficulty so it's not a lot of "filler" in my 30ish hours to play through the campaign.

A great "old school" RPG that is still modern in terms of journal, great (and sometimes hilarious) voice acting and well executed turn based battles.

20 hours in the main campain and I'm really happy I got this game. I started playing CRPGs almost 30 years ago and this makes me happy no just in a nostalgic way, it's a good game 2023 as well!

Great rouge-like city builder.

The best part of the game is how well game complexity and difficulty increases. You are learning as you play and what seems almost insurmountable penalties a few games in gets trivial after some more games. The 25 increasing difficulty levels will keep you entertained and challenged for quite a while though!

I have completed Prestige 11 about 60 hours in so I expect to get to 100 hours before beating all the regular challenges. And so far I'm still enjoying it greatly so it has lasting appeal!

I'm now over 200 hours in playing the complete game with the DLC and I think it's gotten even better. The challenge level is still great and the longer term goals chaining many of the "roguelike" city builds together gives something to strive for for many hours.

Played this only 1.5h but I am certain enough that I don't want to keep it that I requested a refund.

This is a beautiful game that's clearly strongly influenced by one of my favorite game series, Heroes of Might and Magic. For early access it seems extremely polished and I encountered no technical issues while playing. The overland movement and exploration is great albeit somewhat limited since it takes a long time to get more "weilders" (Heroes) and thus more than one army to move around.

Where the game falls completely flat for me is the combat system. First of all there is an artificial limit to how many units can be in a stack. Secondly there is a limit to how many stacks a weilder can bring with them. Both are only somewhat upgradeable and it's a slow process. Third the magic system that takes several battle turns to charge energy to use spells means that I have to wait to use spells and limits their utility by a huge amount (as battles are already quite short with the limited unit counts). Fourth is that there is no "wait" so a fast unit can wait and move after a slow one which limits tactical options even more. It just feels like the battle part that I like most about HoMM and similar games is crippled for no good reason. I wanted to love this game, but this frustrated me enough that I just don't have enough hope that I will grow to like it to make me keep it past the 2 hour refund window.

I've only played through the tutorial mission but so far I really like this game. It feels a lot like a board game with cards that drive what you can do depending on the luck of the draw. If you like board games, especially games like "Terraforming Mars" which obviously has some similarities you will likely like this game!

It's very polished for an early access title, but so far it's also not hugely feature rich. The road map going forward is promising though.

Great implementation of the board game and a robust AI implementation. If you like the board game you will like this! The AI is not super challenging if you've played a few dozen games, but there is a cheating AI (it gets bonus resources) if you want punishment :)

I love turn based RPGs and RPGs in general. When I was younger I played through dozens and the longer they were the better. These days I generally get bored and quit before I finish the story. Fell Seal was the first game in 5 years that I played from start to finish and even did the extra content to get the "best" ending. Highly recommend!
