This is a very good game as what can be expected from Paradox offerings.

It is sad to see such a good game so underrated. Guaranteed that most of the people who has given this game a bad rating are people that are not a fan of the colony management simulation type games their brain span is most probably only limited to FPS games anyway. The negative reviews are mostly people that don't even have 20 hours on the game yet... Really...

Back on topic...

This game gives one that same feeling of the unexpected as Rimworld does the only difference is that Paradox did polish this game very nicely. The learning curve is not too steep and you should get the hang of thing at your 2nd or 3rd play through. Every new game is unique, not one will be the same taking into account the random generated research tree and map location.

Research is key here, your game will be played according to your research tree and its available tecs. Playing at normal or higher difficulties the game gives many unwanted surprises but can be remedied by researching or using some of the many game mechanics to curb these problems.

Some tips for new players:

  • Pause the game at start.
  • Use big solar panels - maintenance is cheap compared to the alternative power sources especially at start.
  • Research research research. Research the explorer tec and any other tecs that in turn would give you more research.
  • Always have some orbital probes and scout an area to find water, metal and rare metals priority in this order, you can just restart map until you find a suitable location. The revealed spot isn’t always the best spot.
  • As far I am aware single block power lines don’t require maintenance and thus you can save allot on maintenance and any power interruptions just by reducing the amount of power lines required.
  • Once you setup a dome it is also crucial to have your pipes and power lines complete the circuit, have the dome connected with pipes and power on both sides. Also remember to place an oxy and water tank right next to your dome in case something goes wrong like a meteor shower.
  • Review your first colonists and handpick the key people from them Botanists and Scientists being the most important on your first landing.
  • Use your sensors to mark out landing spots for your rockets.
  • Pre-plan what you want to build and where, just switch the building off until you are ready to dedicate resources to the project.
  • Try and research farms and plant soybeans until your ground is at 100% fertility and then alternate with potatoes. Farms are way more productive than hydro farms and one farm on 100% should easily provide for 100+ people.

In my opinion playing the game on easy spoils it and feels way too rushed and not as rewarding as it should be in Paradox fashion. Try and go for India, China or Blue Sun Corp. as sponsor and be prapared to lose a few human days on a single game.

What I would like to see in the future expansion packs is an ability to trade more resources than just rare metals also having new unique resources and buildings to accompany them.

It would be awesome to play on another type of planet.

I rate this game a 9/10 and would recommend it to people who like city building and management simulations.
