With a sprinkle of never getting dedicated servers and a dash of no anti-cheat system in a purely PvP-oriented game, the recipe calls for the following:

4 cups of rampant hackers that make the game absolutely unplayable for the opposing team
2 quarts of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ peer to peer services that leads to rubberbanding players and hits often not registering because your Mastermind is likely in another country or plays on 56K internet
1 stick of horribly unbalanced abilities and mechanics
3 tablespoons of a gross progression system that requires way too many matches to get a box that will most likely have just a spray in it that nobody cares about or will ever see
1 teaspoon of Masterminds that can turn on a lag switch in the final area to lag out Survivors and make the entirety of the match a complete waste of time

Finally, stir in some lack of patch notes and transparency from the developers, cover with extreme disappointment and cook at a steadily dying playerbase for best results.

If only we could have had Outbreak that fans have been asking for for years now.
