Boltgun has been an absolute blast to play through twice. I played once on normal difficult and jumped straight to Exterminatus difficulty to round up my achievements. Finding all the secrets isn't in my interest but will be a must for those OCD completionists. As you can see, I spent around 24 hours playing through both difficulties. On Exterminatus difficulty I was crying during certain scenarios and boss fights which were a bi**** to play through.

This game was fondly reminiscent of Doom and its more recent sequels and that is a GOOD thing. Perhaps one day, we'll get games that don't always feature the stereotypical enhanced soldier in hulking armour. In the meantime, look no further than Boltgun!

The base game is incredible, but like all a prominent named character that also appears in the game, Castellan Crowe is rather underwhelming. He doesn't even have voiceovers with the rest if the crew, and being the leader and brotherhood champion of the Purifier order, you'd think he'd have more agency than Ectar who is a part of your command crew.

Instead, there is no dialogue apart from a small text blurb at the beginning when he joins you. For 14.99, this was a ripoff.

Early Access Review
Well the DayZ Standalone's finally out...after much initial fanfare when it was first to be released mid 2012 which was then delayed to the end of 2012, so on and so forth, the ALPHA was finally released just last month in December 2013. I'm still shocked that it wasn't delayed till a later date in all honesty. Rocket has clearly taken the lesson learned by the WarZ developers and using it to get DayZ finished with all of his ideas and the much needed polish before officially releasing the game.

What's playable right now makes me more than optimistic about this game. Many of the bugs that were existent in the mod have been resolved. For example, Items that are dropped on the ground do not arbitrarily disappear anymore though they still take time to appear on the ground (roughly 30 seconds).

The visual makeover, customizability and gameplay changes all serve to make DayZ a better simulation of a zombie apocalyptic experience.

The bug fixes and improvements combined are just the tip of the iceberg compared with what is coming up this year prior to the beta release. It's hard to do justice in describing the things about DayZ that owe their immense entertainment value to the intangible experiences of the game. How would you say that running for 20 minutes non stop to get to the North West Airfield fromt he coast is fun? How is foraging for food and supplies in a virtual world so rewarding? It's difficult to convince you with words alone. However, at the same time it is all I can do to say that this game is worth playing and spending 29.99 now to get it and try it out for yourself to see what the can of beans hunting simulator is all about.

Surrender to ME and handZ me all YOUSA BEANZZZ!
