This little program, as well available for free at github, is a pure gem if you will still play directX 9 games!

Will simply say, if this is the future of SpellForce, sadly, it is the end of SpellForce.

First Impression which may change in progression of playing. Graphics are upgraded in resolution CoH original style. Perhaps it is only the beginning stages of the first available scenario, but it feels very controlled by the game with limited actual overview options. Example, taking Italy is scripted action where you simply follow directions for the most part and your choice of where to attack is limited in the extreme so not much apparent room for the advertised free play unless that is something coming later.

At 25 hours played, let's just say "NO!" for the moment. Order action, wait for the action, wait for the results, wait for the next action to be available and there is no smooth flow to this game with 75% of the time playing waiting on the ordered action. Of the 25 hours played, 18 have been spent sitting and waiting on the next action sequence in the game. Fire, wait for action, swing in camera, wait for the action, swing out camera, wait for the action. Turn choices are movement and a shot or just a shot when you can get it to work without using the movement portion of the turn. If you will play, be sure to have something to fill your time wasted waiting for the actions over and over again.

Abandoned evidently because early release (bought by us to beta test) did not make enough money and was enough of a disappointment sales never really happened upon claimed release not to mention no way to change resolution or go to windowed mode so mostly you just have sound and a black screen.

EDIT: 2 May 2022: Yes, I see the creator comment below. And yes, I sent about a dozen emails and tickets requesting assistance and was completely ignored. My first computer was a Commodore PET and I am a computer tech, builder, repair person, programmer, driver writer, etc... When a game falls off unplayable because of hardware and software advancement, I figure out how to keep them playing for everyone with Rome TW and Windows 10 a prime example as it was blacklisted until I found the error.

THIS game? It is so incomplete and broken I can do nothing with it.

I will say yes to recommending if you want a cool story line but a bit too much repetitiveness in between the story line. The game has five missions and the story line. You play a bit of story, play a few of the offered missions, play more story line, play again those same options as mission, play more story line, and you are likely getting the drift. 20 more maps/mission possibilities instead of repetitiveness and this would have been a super awesome game rather than barely a recommendation.

Advance to December 2024 and changing my review. Warhammer 3 has become a cash grab.

XCOM 2 with a more complex interaction with the other three factions, multiple bases rather than a single ship, not so chatty narrative, and multiple direct control teams rather than one direct control and a behind the scenes team. While the start is slow and a bit repetitive, dont get comfortable as the complexity escalates. The big drawbacks are the small repetitive maps with the only real diversity the enemy itself which has a kind of hollowness to it, there should be a more easily and intuitive interface to access your various teams on the world map, and battle maps need a minimap.

This is one of the very few games of which I am aware you will know inside and out if you like it within only a few hours. It is a city builder with some twists. Nicely balanced and presented. SOLID to its core!

One caution... If you are running dual or more monitors, be prepared the mouse will slip off the screen even with the cursor lock on with the new Prosperity DLC. I am hoping they will fix that in the next days or weeks.
